I would hope by now that everyone knows the three key ways to help curb the spread of the coronavirus. I am sharing them below, in case someone out there missed them. We all know what they are. I’m only repeating the advice given by top health experts around the world.

(the above is important to note in case you want to opt out of the next 1000 words…)

But we still aren’t paying attention here. And more and more folks are going to get sick and many more will die. If you want to forget the 225,000 already dead, fine. Let’s start from here. Take the advice, utilize the measures, and help save yourself; along with potentially thousands of others. Starting today - do your part.

Part of the problem or part of the solution - which do you choose?

3 Key Ways to Mitigate Coronavirus Spread

Wear Your Mask

There is no national mandate on masks, currently. Many health experts are calling for it; however, there is no cohesive backing for the nation to implement the wearing of masks on the whole.

Plenty of folks believe masks don’t work. And much of that derision comes from the White House, where masking up is optional and often touted as pointless - despite outbreaks among top White House officials.

Vice President Mike Pence’s chief of staff is the latest to contract Covid19 and is showing mild symptoms. It has been reported that Mike Pence was aware of Short’s diagnosis, yet traveled to Florida that same day and with little concern for masking up.

Mike Pence has so far tested negative; though there are now three reported positive cases of the coronavirus amongst his closest staff. With these latest cases, you would assume they might make the case for mask wearing, as experts for many months have pushed the importance of face coverings to slow the spread of this deadly disease.

Scientists, health experts, and just plain common sense tell us that wearing a mask can slow the spread. I cannot for the life of me figure out why so many Americans are resisting this life saving measure.

Lots of folks state it infringes upon their rights. It doesn’t. You are, however, infringing on the rights of everyone you put in danger by not doing this simple step. By not following this easy guideline, you risk exposing someone else to the virus and thus you could be the reason they don’t recover from it.

Call me a snowflake. You are ignorant in your belief. If you are too lazy, uncaring, or uneducated to consider the lives of your fellow citizens, you are most definitely part of the problem.

But let’s call it plain old common sense.

Wearing the mask prevents/slows airborne emissions from you to another. Rather than complaining about the inconvenience of mask wearing, just put the darn thing on - the life you save could very well be your own.

Below you’ll find a video I put out in May about the proper way to wear a mask. I doubt anyone needs a tutorial at this point, but there it is, anyway…

Social Distancing

I know this one is difficult. We are tired. We are frustrated. We are anxious to return to any sense of normal we can get. We are more than 8 months in on a virus that does not appear to be letting up any time soon.

And believe it or not, we are EVERYTHING to do with that if we are not following this one simple common sense rule - and that is to social distance whenever possible.

  • Don’t attend that 10,000 person wedding (I think they canceled it, anyway).
  • Don’t gather in large groups (or even small ones now, as winter approaches).
  • Don’t go out and about unless it’s absolutely necessary (limiting your trips can save you and those around you).

We all miss our previous lives. There isn’t a person still alive on this planet, certainly not in this country, that wishes we remain in this new world. Experts have continually stated that social distancing does help mitigate the spread.

It’s common sense.

So for the short term - shorter if we all hop on board - be a peach and do your part. Stay home, limit trips out and about, and keep your distance around those you do come into contact with - for your health and theirs.

If you must be in close quarters with others not in your immediate family, try to maintain adequate distance (experts recommend at least 6 feet) and if that is not possible, then return to that first piece of advice and wear your mask.

If you need further proof that social distancing does (or doesn’t) work, consider the following: my spa business has been shut three times due to covid19. We are an intimate business, perhaps with incredibly bad luck - but either way we have proven (sadly) that not maintaining distance can encourage transmission to others.

Wash Your Hands

This should be so much common sense and yet we are still shouting about it. Personal hygiene is essential in curbing the coronavirus spread. I’m not sure why so many are shocked that the simple task of keeping your hands clean might be key. But here we are, still reminding folks to dip into water and wash those pesky germs away.

Singing the birthday song helps - you’re welcome.

Not sure how often to wash your hands?

Think about the task you are performing and whether you would then immediately put your hands in your mouth? If this makes you ill, it is time to start singing and washing to rid those germs.

The above three simple common sense ways to mitigate the spread of Covid19 are perhaps the most popular. And at least one of them is without doubt the most controversial. But they are only the start of how you can help limit transmission.

Do your research, do your part, and be part of the solution and not the problem, so we can all return to some semblance of normal before we all lose our sanity.

Are you tired of all this yet? Tired of hearing about it, tired of living it, tired of not having a plan to get rid of it?

Then do your part.

  • Wear the mask.
  • Social Distance.
  • Wash your hands.

…and…

  • Disinfect (just maintain a clean environment).
  • Cover your mouth and nose for sneezes (crook of your arm works, as does tissues).
  • Avoid those who are susceptible to illness (I’m fairly certain grandma understands…).
  • Monitor your health (if you feel sick, behave smartly and seek medical attention accordingly).

…to name a few more helpful ways to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.

I wouldn’t have written this today, but once again, I was perusing the Facebook and was, once again, astounded by the lack of care from one human to another.

It should be simple. I don’t know why it’s not. For so many to appear uncaring speaks volumes about where your priorities lie. And I’m not even getting political here. Common senses tells you these three ways do help mitigate spread.

Let’s all do more common sense.

Let’s all get back to life.

Do your part and be the solution, not the problem.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Sandra Lynn

Please note: I’m no health expert. I live by common (and not so, sometimes) sense. And an unwavering need to help others. I HATE wearing the mask. I don’t know anyone who LOVES it. But it does make sense and I’d rather be helping than hurting. Period.
