The Future of Swag is Automated
Swag.com was founded in early 2016 when co-founders Jeremy Parker and Josh Orbach noticed that the current swag market was filled with things that didn’t resonate with its current buyer- often times a twenty-something year old assigned with the task of purchasing branded items for their newly coveted position at a swanky company. Parker and Orbach recognized a few things about these young buyers that other promotional product companies didn’t: these buyers didn’t want to speak to anyone on the phone, they wanted a curated selection of only the best items, and they wanted to feel competent in ordering a product that was exclusive to them. Now, just 4 years after launch, Swag.com has grown to 35 employees and brings in $7m in sales.

In these tough economic times, many people are finding themselves in the less than enviable position of having to search for a new job. Competition is fierce, and nowadays landing that dream job is more difficult than ever. If you haven't been on a job interview in recent years, you may be in for a few surprises. "Today, it takes a lot more than a good first impression and a strong resume to get you the job", that's what one of my colleagues at CraftResumes.com said recently. Employers are upping the ante by using a variety of interviewing styles and questions that you may not be expecting. Interviewing styles may range from being rather relaxed to downright intimidating.

It was a beautiful day. The cloudy sky hid the angry sun and relieved me from the scorching summer heat. It was a special day for me as I was attending my first interview after relocating to a new place. Things looked pretty simple for me as I attended such interviews for many years. But, I was terrified about the journey as I was unfamiliar with the routes and driving in a new place always panicked me. Yes, I am not a good driver too as I never loved driving during my whole life. Some mocked me saying that it's crazy that there was a person who says 'no' to driving. In a world of racing and motor sports, I loved taking bus and walking on streets than riding in my comfort. Fear was one factor and the regular news of accidents increased my anxiety of holding the steering.

Human resource management is an absolutely vital function of any business entity regardless of its size and scope. Whether you are a self-made entrepreneur looking to expand your business, or a Fortune 500 CEO looking to downsize your corporation, maintaining, recruiting, and training the right people for the task is a matter of necessity. It is not optional. Deciding against the implementation of proper human resource management is a deliberate decision to fail.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR INTERVIEW By now, you have likely already submitted your resume, but if you haven't, be sure to update it and check for any errors. FUN FACT: The most common mistake made in a resume, is spelling and grammar errors. Make sure you know ahead of time who will be conducting your interview and what kind of interview it will be (one-on-one, panel, Skype, etc.) Do your research! Find out what you can about the company and the position you're applying for, so that you arrive at your interview prepared. Practice your responses to questions. TIP: Record yourself answering questions so that it is easier to observe anything that needs improvement. Dress to impress! This one has increasingly become controversial in that some people believe that you shouldn't be judged based on your outfit. While I agree, most employers do consider this an important part of determining whether or not you are a right fit for the job. So for now, make sure you look professional and presentable! Plan accordingly. Make sure you have right address of where the interview will be taking place and account for traffic, as well as parking. TIP: Try to arrive 15 minutes early. Make extra copies of important documents such as you resume, your CV, a list of references, any certifications, etc. Also ensure that you have both a pen and notepad to take to the interview.
