Enlightenment flower and growth

Canela Michelle Meyers is in no other words, a beautiful soul here to impart peace and awareness. As a Life Coach she offers service online and in person and brings the spiritual to the foreground in her work with others. I first heard of Canela after I was included in the book “One Truth Many Voices. Satsang with 108 Living Gurus,” by Sony Mervin, and Canela was also included as one of the living gurus and Mervin spoke so highly of her. She is a great practitioner and teacher of Satsang, which is why I chose to do this interview with her. To help bring Satsang, a form of meditation, to the world, even to the small corners of it. Teaching, maintaining peace is not only a choice it is a goal and a concept of universal consciousness.

These questions are important to me because I think the world is in need of awareness of what the spiritual really means. So people don’t forget why we are living beings on this planet. This series is a way of showing real individuals who walk the walk in their daily lives. I remember in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s it seemed like Spiritualists were on every corner and all had something to say of value. Here we are soon in 2023 — where did everybody go? Well, here let me share who I have discovered in the universal unfold of kindness, of principals of human nature, of those who really honour the spiritual. The individuals in the series are dedicated to helping others through their own spiritual or artistic/creative knowledge.

May I introduce to you, Canela:

1) What was the first introduction to the spiritual in life? Were you raised with a belief system spiritual or religious? Or how did your awakening to the spiritual happen?

My first ‘knowing’ of the spiritual was being in nature. It was a place where I could feel safe as well as ‘hear’ nature supporting me. It is where I started to talk with God/Source. I was raised Catholic and loved the smell of incense and the murmuring of the whole congregation in prayer. I loved the rituals…they somehow supported me even though I didn’t understand that at the time (as a child growing up).

The awakening happened gradually. At first in ways that I didn’t fully understand, then later when I had made the decision to make ‘Consciousness’ my first priority in my day to day living. I could see that I was headed to this from the moments as a child when I could talk with God/Source in nature.

2) How would you describe Satsang to someone naiive or one without any meditative experience?

The word ‘Satsang’ is made up of two Sanskrit words: Sat = Truth Sang = Sharing. Satsang, therefore is the Truth Being Shared. Not my Truth, each of the participant’s Truth from within themselves. Satsang supports each participant to hear, see and understand themselves, and all aspects of their lives. This creates a wonderful settling feeling inside — the feeling of ‘you got this!’ (except the person feels that towards themselves). It is an opportunity to let all of the details of life be released so the person can ‘start again’, newly, from right where they are. This makes life so much easier.

3) Would the journey of Satsang bring one to awakening or do you see these as separate ideas?

Satsang definitely supports each participant to awaken — to themselves and to the world. There is no separation in reality so the awakening is completely inclusive.

4) How do you see the role of the modern guru, or spiritual advisor in society today.

I can only speak for myself. My role is to support each person to hear, see, feel, and understand themselves at the root. The root is always 100% Love/Source/God/Goddess. This is my role, to support them to That: to support them to awaken to the Truth of their existence. An existence where they actually experience, on-going, themselves being held by Love/Source/Goddess/God. This is experiential, not just thinking about it.

5) What is the most important element of spirituality that you would like to get across to people?

That they are being supported, in each and every moment, by Source/Love/God/Goddess. To know this by experiencing it. In this realization, their lives become more joyful, more easeful, and they become more and more trusting in life in every direction. When this happens, they feel more: heard, seen, supported, loved, appreciated and even more alive — at one with their lives.

Thank you Canela, for your insights and words on enlightenment. The topic of Spirituality, awakening, and practices like Satsang hold a vast arena in knowledge. Experience is the instrument to awareness. With teachers like Canela the discovery can have more growth as guided. There is much to discover through her words and work. I hope that you will take the time to browse her website and videos. Share light, share truth. Namaste.
