Grillz Hills (Retirement Home for Sucka MCs)

The following is from the pamphlet provided by the Grillz Hills Retirement Home and Convalescent Centre. Hopefully, it may provide information about a long required service in the musical community.

Life is not fair, is it?

You can be dissed or be the one to diss, but by this point in your lives, you know where you stand in the circle of life.

You are dissed.

But you deserve to be loved.

We at Grillz Hills understand how central you are to the history of America’s last great musical and cultural force, hip-hop and rap. Ever since that trio of fine, well-bespoke and game-changing gentlemen known for now and forever as Run-DMC brought us their single, “Sucka MCs” (a B-Side, but still significant), it has been hard to be a playa in the game with no skills, a rapper who cannot get their flow tight, or simply a fan who overstepped their talent and fell flat on their face when brought up to a mic in a club or challenged to freestyle during a party.

It was a line in the sand moment that we are still learning to handle.

And yes, over the years, many of you faced the wrath of the best and the brightest of the rap world. Some of you disappeared into the grey corners of dull lives; others tried again and again and learned that failure may not always be the best teacher. And the rest of you…?

We understand.

We are here to help you out.

At Grillz Hills, you will experience the joys and comfort of the Aloe Arboretum where your significant burns can be treated and handled by a trained staff who have passed on their skills for over forty years (just in time for that key single). Then there is the Flow Room. This has been designed to teach those of you who still want to be in the game just how it is done. We have discovered that many of you over the years have entered the business in different ways. We have hat vendors, sweatsuit dealers, record producers, music executives, jewelers, online critics, and shoe creators for all the major brands. There is a place for all of you.

And let’s be honest. In recent years, there has been very little talk about the MC as a Sucka. Too many rappers now seemed to be looking at their own lives instead of judging the flow and talent of the competition. There is a theory that the reason why this has happened is due to the fact that hip-hop and rap have become mainstream. Dr. Dre received a standing ovation at the Grammy Awards before Eminem performed with Elton John on the same night! Kendrick Lamarr is now a Pulitzer-Prize winning talent! This does not bode well for the medium.

But it is not all dire.

There will always be that young kid, sitting at home with his notes, a rhyming dictionary, a beat on his laptop, and a dream.

We understand your dreams.

We are here to make you aware of just how far your dreams can go.
