What is the Pomodoro Technique

The Italian Francesco Cirillo developed this strategy starting from a kitchen timer, which was shaped like a tomato. That is why the technique is called Pomodoro, which in Italian means "red".

Specifically, the Pomodoro technique teaches us how to manage our time, dividing it into intervals for breaks and work schedules, to be as productive as possible, and to give maximum efficiency.

The Pomodoro technique described in detail in Francesco Cirillo's book

We all have trouble dividing our time so that we can complete as many tasks as we can during the day, or at least be able to fit in with the tasks we have to do at the end of the day. for work.

However, many cannot manage their time in such a way that they finish everything they set out to do, being forced to postpone them for "tomorrow".

Unfortunately, we all know that other tasks appear the next day, which makes us wake up with a busy schedule. Normally, we feel that we will never be able to finish them, and this not only squeezes our energy but also stresses us out.

This is how we get home in the evening completely exhausted, without energy, and burdened by the thought that the next day will be the same. Unfortunately, this is due in part to the poor organization of our time.

Francesco Cirillo's book, "The Pomodoro Technique," however, can be an excellent guide to managing our time, which is so precious today. This little guide can save you from a lot of unwanted situations, stress, and other inconveniences.

Using just a pen, a sheet of paper, and a stopwatch, you can learn how to work efficiently using the Pomodoro technique so that it is always in your favor. You will be able to eliminate exhaustion from your life, you will know how to manage your free time for fun and to develop a better work-life balance.

What does the Pomodoro method?

There are several rules, but one of them is the best known and most used by most people who use the technique of time management. It says that within 30 minutes, 25 of them should be allocated to work and five minutes to the break. For efficiency and efficiency, this method means that the minutes allocated to the work are not interrupted by anything else. This means that during this time you must dedicate yourself exclusively to work, not to other tasks or phone calls, emails, or any other activity that could interrupt you from the exercise of work or study, in the case of pupils, students, or those who are in the process of learning.

Steps to follow:

  1. You need to start the Pomodoro technique by writing down on a piece of paper what your goal is. You can call this "General Activities". Here you write down all the things you want to do, whether long-term or short-term.
  2. The second thing you need to do every day, this time, is to write down the activities you plan to do that day. Along with the activity, write the estimated time for its completion.
  3. During the day you use the technique presented above, through which you dedicate yourself entirely to work for 25 minutes, then a five-minute break. Repeat this procedure several times during the day.
  4. At the end of each day, you should read what you did well and what you did not do that day so that you do not make the same mistakes in the following days. As an example, you can see how many minutes you spent studying and how much progress you made. You set the criteria yourself, depending on your purpose.
  5. Ask yourself: How? What to do? Which activities are really useful? How can I reorganize them to be more efficient? This style of questioning will guide you to good results.
  6. Every time you interrupt something or stop using the Pomodoro technique to do something else, write it down on your piece of paper. At the end of the day, you can count how many obstacles you have encountered in your attempt to use this technique. Your goal is to get rid of these interruptions, but that requires discipline.
  7. Observe them, accept them, and then get rid of them. To become more efficient in managing your time, you need to constantly challenge yourself. Try to complete what you did faster than you expected. However, if you are running out of time, it is important not to be discouraged. You need to keep working calmly and focused to achieve success. By stimulating continuity you will reach productivity and creativity.
