The Significance of Lanyards

not everyone know lanyard

Lanyards serve the primary function of holding identification cards. These cards are essential for identifying individuals. In the office buildings of Jakarta, a single building can accommodate thousands of people. Not everyone is allowed to enter the building; only those with specific reasons are permitted. These individuals are marked by their identification cards. In the past, building security would stop anyone not wearing a tali lanyard from entering. Nowadays, many buildings utilize automatic gates, and without an identification card, one cannot enter.

In our workplaces, the function of lanyards remains the same. Door locks are opened by swiping the card against a sensor, while some use fingerprint scanners. Thus, the card acts as a door key and also registers attendance, as each time we swipe the card, the system automatically records our arrival and departure times.

In large companies, identification cards are crucial for marking the identity of individuals. Various administrative tasks require the presentation of identification cards as validation that the person is an employee or a member of the organization. This function extends beyond the workplace; for instance, a bank might approve a loan for employees of certain companies solely based on their employee identification cards, without requiring a work certificate.

Initially, lanyards were merely card holders to prevent them from getting lost or misplaced. However, they bind an identification card, which holds significant meaning. The card along with the lanyard signifies that an individual is a member of an organization. How one perceives their organization determines their attitude towards the lanyard bogor they wear.

I used to keep my lanyard in my bag, only taking it out when I arrived at the office. Upon leaving, I would immediately put it back into my bag to ensure I wouldn't forget where I placed it. This became a routine habit. It means that after office hours, I always removed it.

The only irregular pattern was when I went out during office hours, such as for lunch breaks. Sometimes, I would keep it in the car seat pocket, and sometimes I would still wear it. For me, the lanyard only served as an identification card.

Some individuals might wear lanyards to boast or show off to others that they work for a prestigious company. That's not an issue. It's perfectly fine to feel proud and flaunt it.

However, in every display, the rules are the same. Some may be impressed, while others may not be. Some may even sneer. "Wow, he actually works for Company X. Impressive." "Huh, turns out he just works for Company X." These two types of comments may arise when we show off. People can either admire or belittle. Just like when we flaunt other things like wealth, positions, relationships, and so on. So, don't expect everyone to be impressed.

Regarding lanyards, some might be sarcastic, considering the wearers as showing off their status as slaves or servants of certain companies.

It's okay to be proud of our status. But often, it's unnecessary. Moreover, not everyone's reaction to it brings us joy. Of course, if people think our pride is excessive, their reactions will be even more unpleasant.

For me, the best approach is to enjoy our status or achievements quietly. For example, by enjoying the consequences, such as spending the money we earned from working at Company X on buying things, enjoying good food, buying a house or a car, traveling, and so on.
