The biggest misconception about star signs

So yes. Fish. I’m one of the fishes of the zodiac. According to astrology, we represent the ocean. Deep and dangerous (well it depends on who you ask!)

We are extremely sensitive, imaginative, creative, overly-trusting and did I mention extremely sensitive?

Pisces is a water sign and so it’s characterised by emotional capacity in general, and with deep access to emotions brings stories, daydreams and creativity.

I happen to relate strongly to my sign, and so I believe in astrology! In fact, I did my dissertation for my masters' film degree in astrology.

So Yep! I’m totally obsessed with it.

But I’m also aware that there are many sceptics out there, and I completely understand why. Some say the qualities are too broad, some say it’s the Barnum effect—the phenomenon that occurs when individuals believe that personality descriptions apply specifically to them despite the fact that the description is filled with information that applies to everyone.

But from my point of view, astrology is a pseudoscience that is not only misrepresented by western culture, but also needs a lot of research.

Whilst your sun sign might dictate some of your personality traits, there are so many aspects of your birth chart that forms your unique personality.

For example, mercury is an aspect that governs communication, venus is an aspect of your chart that governs love and relationships, your moon sign governs your mind and your ascendant sign governs how others initially perceive you before they get to know you.

Then there are many different houses in your chart, 1st house all the way to the 12th house.

And the variables just goes on and on and on.

So when you find yourself reading sun sign horoscopes on a website, and they don’t apply to you, well, that’s because that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to your astrological profile!

Your birth chart is unique only to you, and you can’t be boxed into the broad qualities of 1/12th of the population.

You might find it interesting to know that the reason why I believe in astrology, is not because of any of the above points. I believe in astrology because the majority of the people in my life, and those I’ve interacted with, happen to have certain qualities that are exaggerated in their signs.

As a Pisces, this is how I perceive your zodiac signs, these are based on my subjective experiences so take it with a pinch of salt!

Aquarius - Very emotionally intelligent and progressive, but comes across as cold and insensitive. They might not reply to your text messages for a while.

Capricorn - Seeks financial stability and usually will do anything to achieve it. These people are the managers and the bosses of the world!

Libras - Idealistic when it comes to love but incredibly charming! Don’t be surprised if a Libra falls in love with you in 2 business working days...

Taurus - Hedonistic and pleasure-seeking and but very chilled and laid back. Favourite phrase - Please give me a massage.

Scorpios - Intense, passionate and master of secrets, might be that one gothic kid in your class.

Cancers - Family-oriented, caring but prone to moodiness. Say something bad about one of their family members at your own risk.

Aries - Aggressively ambitious and very competitive, might be a multi-instrumentalist.

Virgos - Meticulous, high attention to detail but will criticise the hell out of you and themselves.

Sagittarius- Philosophical and adventurous. The majority of saggitarius natives I’ve met go through an existential crisis—Why are we here? Why is the sky blue? Why do we have two eyes?

Pisces - Imaginative and sensitive but exists in a world that is very far from reality and so comes across as very irrational.

Gemini - Knows at least 10 facts about any topic you could possibly think of, big conversationalists but gets bored very easily.

Leo - Loyal, kind and very generous, and will most likely be Aries’ biggest competition partner.

Now you might look at those qualities and think, meh! Anyone could be any of those things!

Anyone could be loyal and everyone seeks financial stability!

But the idea of astrology is that those qualities are exaggerated and more pronounced in some zodiac signs.

If someone insults your family member, I’m sure you’ll give them the biggest scolding, but a Cancer might blow up your house over it!

And whilst you might wonder how the world came to exist once in a while, Sagittarius natives probably think about it 12 times a day.

And of course when we add influences from other planets to the mix, things become even more complicated.

So whether you believe in astrology or not, it’s best to do some research into your birth chart and learn about the different aspects that affect your personality! You might be very surprised at what you’ll find out.
