Meet Susanne, a girl from Wisconsin who moved to LA, she is killing it by simply applying some distraction techniques I will elucidate in this piece.

There is so much you can get yourself to do as a distraction to getting anxious or depressed. Your simple thoughts even work, you can make up stories or think about happy memories to distract from negative thoughts. Imagine being a superhero with superpowers!

If things get tough, leave the situation or do some chores to keep busy. Put together, a distraction plan on a 3x5 card, and carry it with you. Let's stay prepared and ready to divert our minds when needed!

We're discussing distractions, and making an interruption plan consistently because this is important in handling Borderline Personality Disorder, BPD. This solution is so astonishing that we can contemplate all the aggravation you've previously had to deal with in your life, every individual who genuinely hurt you physically and verbally, put them in a single box, and lock it up forever.

Does it make any sense to keep harming yourself? And be engulfed with recuperating yourself from self-inflicted wounds? We will both agree it doesn't make a parcel of sense. One major way to avoid all these is to occupy ourselves from the somewhat reckless conduct with distraction techniques.

I have read articles where writers suggest you let it out with actions like holding an ice cube, snapping an elastic band on your wrist, tossing cushions against the wall as hard as you can, and composing letters to individuals you disdain, all these are negative activities. Our outbursts of anger and anxiety can be diverted and channelled into pleasurable exercises and engagement that will improve our relationships and overall health.

There are several distraction techniques we can deploy.

The first distraction technique that catches my fancy is to get a pet. This may not be a thing for you but getting a pet, especially a dog, cat, bird, snake, you can name it. Having someone or something that loves you to death, and solely depends on you for survival, can make a lot of difference. Pets have a huge sense of humour, they make you laugh so hard to help activate happy hormones, and they also provide lasting companionship.

If you are in a stable relationship, sex can come in handy. Sex relaxes your muscles and releases stress from your body. It is actually of immense importance that you engage in a sexual relationship with your partner, and not engage in a sexual rampage.

Join a community club, a book club, or a sports club where you can meet new people with diverse knowledge, culture, and ways of life, with different abilities and affinities.

Get a friend to see a movie together, with some ice cream and popcorn to savour, you can watch a football game together, visit a circus or an amusement park. the list is endless!

Parties and hangouts are also amazing forms of distractions, but you must monitor your alcohol intake, this can also trigger another level of anxiety or depression.

Another distraction technique is to help and support people to accomplish their dreams, this is so satisfying and fulfilling, it elevates your mind and makes you feel on top of the world.

Reading books, articles or blogs will go a long way to distract, each time you feel an episode of anxiety is close. Choose carefully what you watch and read at this period, and never give yourself away to violent content.

Visiting a park, listening to the noise of kids, and the sound of dogs, and watching families: old and young; can create a brand new world around you. Anxiety loves loneliness, starve it of loneliness!

Our minds have a powerful storage system that regurgitates our pleasant experiences and recalls these good times. All the cheerful little subtleties can practically take you out of anxiety.

Affirmations work effectively too. Get a journal, write the things you will do, who you are, what you will be shortly, and the wonderful things you will achieve within a short while. Carry the journal with you everywhere you go, or better still, have it written in a special folder on your phone notepad. Have a mantra you say over and over again.

The last on my list is getting distracted with chores, don't delegate! Do your laundry, wash the dishes, mow the lawn, clean the furniture, arrange the wardrobe, and rearrange your drawers. You can run paid or free errands here and there.

Whatever you do, make sure you keep yourself engaged and ultimately distracted.
