friendship
C.S Lewis got it right: friendship is born when one person says to another: "What! You too? I thought I was the only one!"
The Adventures of Lorne W.P Vanderwoude
My name is Lorne W.P Vanderwoude. I was born on a Friday on April 26 in 1968. I was brought into this world by my birth mother. She had to give me up for adoption because of the fact that she had a mental disease. She held me for thirty minutes then I was taken away from her. I was sent from Red Deer to Edmonton just so she could not ever find me even if she wanted to.

My Girl
Hey G, How are you my girl? I miss you. I miss that loud, contagious cackle that always turned into noises of nonsense. 2020, you would simply not believe! It began with the land burning, the deep red of the outback penetrated the entire country. Now, we’re trying to navigate the uncharted territory of a global pandemic. The world feels as though it’s no longer united, and each country is functioning as their own separate entity. Our oasis is see-soaring between isolation and what we’re starting to call “the new normal”, (but it’s not normal at all). We were masked then, and we’re masked now. The Black Lives Matter movement is finally in focus and has sparked wider conversations of systemic racism, privilege, misogyny and LGBTQI+ rights that need light and airtime. We are all really trying our best, and I know you would be too. It would be so great to chat to you about it all, and hear your commentary over a glass of pinot noir.

Bob Reveals The True Treasure
Once upon a time, there lived a farmer named Shane. He used to work in the fields day and night to feed his large family. Once, severe rain and hail destroyed his produce. With little food and money to just last a few days, Shane was in a desperate situation. Other farmer families in his village were also in similar condition.

Best Friends
Friendship is the weirdest thing ever, you pick a person and you bring them into your life, share all your deepest darkest secrets with them and treat them better than you treat your own family. It's a strange thing but it's also a much-needed thing for human survival. Socializing is good for your psyche and your soul. You get to vent and complain about your life without being judged. You get to go on adventures and do silly random things with someone who is exactly like you so there's no awkwardness. Friendship is much needed to get through this crazy wild ride of life.

Friendship
I've never quite understood the concept of friendship. As a child, most of your friends come from family such as cousins or siblings or your parents friends kids. If you're lucky enough you grow up together and your bond becomes stronger and the relationship lasts a life time. But if you're like me, it doesn't turn out that way.

Some Hurt More Than Others
I got my first tattoo within days of turning 18 at a shady tattoo parlor with my 17 years senior half brother's then girlfriend. It was the small logo of Fall Out Boy Pete Wentz's short lived clothing line Clandestine Industries on my lower back and it was crooked. But I was still a senior in high school and it was like hidden rebellion in a southern school that insisted girl's shorts be no more than three inches above the knee, tank top straps be three adult finger widths wide, and no "unnatural" hair colors were allowed.

The Arena of Life
The crowd cheered loudly as they watched two armored gladiators fight to the death. They could hear the ringing of metal and the shouts of the two men as they traded blows. Some of the crowd members were screaming over each other to be heard--they cheered furiously as they rooted their champion on. The crowd’s cheers were annoying; they were like a thousand flies all buzzing around a carcass. The two men ignored them. They were too focused on fighting each other--any distraction could prove fatal if they paid attention to the crowd. The gladiators were in the Colosseum. The greatest spectacle in Rome. This was not just a game. It was life and death. Only one could come out on top; and that person had to be the strongest and the fiercest fighter.

The Anchor, The Octopus, The Moon, and the Star
I was 20 years old in the year 2011. I was a sophomore at St. John’s College, one of the most prestigious schools in my home state of New Mexico. Born and raised in Santa Fe, I was too chola for my classmates, but I was also too nerdy for my fellow locals. Some people called me a “townie”, others called me “pretentious.” Although I still lived at home, I would usually crash with my college friends instead, preferring their company over my dysfunctional family in an overcrowded house in the downtown barrio.

(S)erving(O)ur(U)nique(P)urpose
When I was 13, my best friend decided to start calling me marsupial. She has a tendency to make associations about people, and then come up with ridiculous new names to identify them. When we met, I had just moved from Australia to the US, and given that my actual name starts with the letters m-a-r-i-s...it was essentially inevitable at that point.
