friendship
C.S Lewis got it right: friendship is born when one person says to another: "What! You too? I thought I was the only one!"
The four friends. Top Story - May 2021.
Friends are an important part of our life, whether we are young, adolescent, adult or old. A life without friends is a life without fun, without happiness. And so finding right friends is very important. Normally we have fun-time friends- friends with whom we share fun times. We go to movies with them, we party out with them. We gossip with them, we discuss our crushes, our hates, our loves with them.

Man Talk: Part 1
David had always had an oil-and-water rapport with sleep, and it didn’t help that, despite being on the fifth floor of his respective tower of the Fontainebleau Hotel, he could hear cocaine heartbeats of techno all the way from the pool area outside his window. It was only eleven in the morning, but there seemed to be no wrong time for stereos to blast in this thin slice of Miami Beach. David found himself wondering how the place would be if the constant stream of music were to suddenly stop; surely, the air would become stoic and thirsty - sort of like how it was in his old neighborhood in one of the more forgotten parts of Santa Ana, where he spent his first eighteen years before moving to Los Angeles as people with delusions of making it in the film industry are wont to do. But he didn’t think about it any further; thinking about death and decay - or worse, feeling it - can take someone for the type of ride that he tried to avoid going on, even by himself. When David could feel himself drifting back into slumber, his phone screen lit up. It was Paul, his artistic partner-in-crime, already wanting to know tonight’s plans.

Thank you, give me an empty joy
Stranger, how have you been these past two days? The "autumn tiger" finally played its fierce strength, my city is so hot, people have to hide in the air conditioning room, no longer go out. The old air conditioner in the house stopped spinning yesterday morning, and the landlord was very helpful in getting someone to fix it, but it was too old to be repaired, and it took at least two days to buy a new one and install it again, which made me very distressed.

The Female Movement
Have you ever seen a friend that's in a relationship she shouldn't be in? Did you say anything? Did you notice the silent signs floating around her? The red, puffy eyes, or the desolate stare? Her unwillingness to leave the house even on nights he's not home?

An Unexpected Find
I did a recent voluntary shift at Newbold Verdon Library alongside Grace, who is a final-year A-level student at Bosworth Academy, Desford. While we were there a friend of hers called in, this being a fellow student who is in the first year of her A-level studies. We got talking about the various things they were working on, which interested me in particular because the friend – whose name I failed to get – is doing English, which fascinates me far more than Grace’s Maths and Chemistry!

The Beauty of Human Connection
I live in a world where true human connection is limited. The fear of being truthful and open consumes the minds of an outstanding number of people. In highschool it is extremely difficult to find people who are “real”. Everyone is living behind masks, using their self ingrained defence mechanisms to protect themselves. When discussing animals we mention the “fight or flight” technique that creatures use in the animal kingdom. However this “fight or flight” is built into us humans as well. We put up barricades and boundaries in order to remove ourselves from reality and to distract ourselves from the possible harshnesses that we could face if we drop our shields. But, there are people in world like me, who try to strip down our walls in order to grasp onto even the slightest amount of love and honesty. We bagger and nag at our friends and family, hoping to strip off a layer of their winter grown bark. Except, this bark is rough and tough, and fingernails are only strong enough to make imprints and scratches. Yet, our desire to feel, consumes us to the point where we will let the tips of our fingers become raw and bloody, just so that we can strip off a piece and get to the sap full of honesty that lies within. Annabelle is one of those people who desire human connection:
