Merlot laced wedding cake
She had sat staring a far – drinking some sweet cocktail trying to consume the liquor with haste. This was a nightly dalliance with the dark for her. She would venture to this place and read her book of Hippocrates, Aristotle or the like. A dark noisy place, sitting and sipping. Writing notes in her first editions with lead pencil. This woman was of some interest to few for anything but sport. Clueless of this fact her confidence to her stature around strange men was un wavered. She felt different inside all the time and all the times, but there was an unrelenting eagerness to connect with others.

Blind Date
When had a blind date ever gone right? Thea had been set up on countless blind dates by her friends before and every single one had gone wrong in some way. So then why did she keep agreeing to them? Why was she sitting here in this five-star restaurant, dressed like it was going to matter? Maybe because she was getting desperate, or lonely, or maybe she was just bored. She didn’t have an answer, and so here she sat.

Open Mind, Open Palate
Carter and I entered the sumptuous restaurant, which was as well known for its decadent desserts as it was for the outlay of cash usually required to eat or drink there. Electric candelabras cast golden hues on every gaudy table we passed.

Serendipitous Stranger
It was 12:35 pm on a sunless, Saturday afternoon on a blustery, autumn day in Santa Barbara, California. Olivia was running five minutes late for her midday shift at Dargans. It was a cozy Irish pup in the deteriorating downtown area which used to be bustling with consumers, tourists and mom and pop businesses, but those days had all but come to an end. So many places had been forced to close due to high rents and cooperate businesses moving in. It was a miracle Dargans had been able to survive this long. It was one of the older establishments at 30 years old.

The Little Black Bird
2739 Cellar Lane, Wine County New York, August 10th, 2021 Down a flight of six steps to the right, behind a dark mahogany door roosted a rare modern phenomenon. Scented with oak and fine wine, the Little Blackbird made its nest. Tables laden with silver, red tablecloths, and small flamed candles fill its belly with serene musical notes from on-stage performances. Here, is where Jake awaits the arrival of a one-of-a-kind treasure.

Confliction (An Original Fiction)
Sitting in the most beautiful restaurant in New York City, Jackie felt quite exuberant. With a chandelier hanging right overhead and a live band playing right next to her table nothing could ruin this evening. Originally she was so fearful of leaving for college. It was so much more. She felt so free. Studying journalism, Jackie was already set up for an internship next semester.

Norway Around It
Olivia rummaged through her suitcase looking for the perfect outfit for tonight. "You are going to give yourself a heart attack Olivia" a voiced echoed from the tablet set up on the white nightstand. It was her best friend, Karl. The two known each other for years and they are each other's anchor when things get rough. "I know I know" she stated in a calm yet angry tone. Olivia had planned this date for over two months and wanted, rather needed everything to go right. "Breathe. I promise you Layla will love it" Karl stated as he tried to calm his best friend. Olivia, who was now buried in clothes, stretched her arm up holding a green flannel shirt. "FOUND IT!" Letting out heavy breaths as she made her way unto the purple chair across from the bed. "I am amazed you put all this together. A trip to Norway and a surprise date. How did you keep this from Layla?" Olivia took a deep breath and looked over at the tablet. "It was harder than it seems. She is very VERY inquisitive, which is one of many reasons why I love her. I told her it was work related."
