I was born in Seattle Washington and raised in southern California where I still live. My passion for writing emerged as soon as I could hold a pencil. I am so happy to be a creator in this community. Thank you for reading.
The Maiden Voyage
In the waning days of lazy summer afternoons and warm nights abuzz with the dwindling lights of fireflies, Amber could often be found beneath the fragrant Magnolia tree in her back yard. She would sprawl out on a giant blanket and read for hours and watch the clouds go by while listening to the soft, summer breeze and the symphony of rustling leaves that would soon be changing and falling to the ground. She was a dreamer and an eternal optimist, which people found to be a bit ridiculous. Amber didn't care. She might be a little silly for spending so much time with her head in the clouds, but it was just her nature and it couldn't be helped. From a young age, Amber knew she was different than all the other girls her age, but it didn't bother her in the slightest.
Growing up Adopted
It was a beautiful Pacific Northwest evening in late summer when they finally got the call. "Mr. and Mrs. Lee, you are about to be the parents of a beautiful baby girl!" My mother was in the kitchen knitting a yellow jumper and my dad yelled to her from the hallway, "Lynn! Get in the car. It's time! Our daughter is on the way." They were over the moon. After nine years of trying for a baby, they finally decided to adopt. The moment they had been waiting for was finally happening.
It was a drizzly Thursday afternoon in Southern California. Fiona Fitzgerald was combing through dilapidated antique stores and thrift shops in hopes of finding some inspiration for her next art piece. She wasn't looking for anything in particular, but nothing was catching her eye. Her feet were soaked through. Her socks and shoes were squishing as she trudged along, and she was catching a chill. The shops were about to close Fiona needed something to warm her up from the inside out. She headed to her favorite cafe in the neighborhood, The Nook.
Life is anything but normal these days. There have been many days over the last year that I question if I can even remember what normal life used to be like. In all honesty, I don't know why I find myself perplexed. My life, by most people's standards, has been anything but normal. I am one of the millions of people world wide who struggle with mental health issues. A lot of issues. Like.... a lot.
