Poverty is necessary

Poverty is a necessity to maintain the financial system working

By real JemaPublished 3 days ago 4 min read

Growing up in poverty, I have always had a very negative view on poverty and I grew up with the anxiety of getting out of it. Each day was a pain and the only thing on my mind was to get enough strength to get out of this for good. So I waited impatiently for the moment I would get the strength to be on my own and control my destiny. Needless to say, I made countless promises to myself and took so many engagements.

Every day I spent without eating, all the times I came short of finances to solve my issues, all the times I couldn’t afford something I wanted. In each one of those moments, my resolve only grew stronger. I am not about to back down or go gently, I am working hard already, and I still feel like I am not working hard enough. I am not here to talk about my past, neither ponder on my future, rather I am here to acknowledge the necessity and importance of poverty in general.

On an existential point of view, poverty does serve to give us purpose, a distraction if you prefer. It's quite difficult to see the bigger picture when you are in poverty, but once you get out of it, you can realize its importance. I am not sure what us humans will look like if poverty didn’t exist, because with it millions of people have something to pursue, a life’s purpose to accomplish. Without it, we would have to create purpose out of thin air. Nevertheless, this is just one side of poverty, the main importance of poverty is because it keeps the monetary system functional and fosters our growth and development in general. When nobody is poor, there is no need for innovation, why worry about learning, growing, getting rich and developing your environment, if you had already all that you wanted and needed, your wants would be limited and your resources unlimited.

Feral

This will be a major problem for humans because our lives will typically end like the animals in the forest, imagine right now all the wild animals who are in the ecosystem, let's just take for example a lion.

When a lion has already enough to eat and drink, it does not find the need to expand, to explore and to grow. It basically does the exact same thing all day long and concentrates its population in that specific area. When there is struggle, that’s how you get a specie spreading across the world and now across the universe.

If we never had any struggles, then we wouldn’t find the need to explore and expand the reach of our specie. We would probably be hunting with spears still (since it would have been still efficient).

Most if not every invention of man came as the result of a need, something was lacking and the invention came to fill the gap or else it wouldn’t have survived. The only inventions which stood the test of time were those which proved useful on to man and nothing else.

I can’t claim poverty was intentionally created, but I can say for sure that it's deliberately maintained to ensure that the world keeps running on innovation. Every day you have people getting rich, others getting into poverty, born into poverty and all of these people keep working hard to get out of it and in the same way push humanity forward. In the same way I had the determination to get out of poverty and do what it takes to not have to suffer, that’s the energy I’ll use to do the things which move humanity forward.

Presently it's as simple as joining the work force, but when enough people do it then you get to the point where some are able to accomplish great feats. If you can think of another method which moves humanity forward aside from collective effort, then please let the world know. One way I can think of is AI and that’s another reason why it's so scary. It basically has the power to do what a collective group of humans are able to do in record amount of time and with minimal effort. This will effectively relieve us from the need for poverty to drive innovation.

I hope you understand now why poverty is needed, it drives innovation and human growth. In it, we foster the growth of humanity. The reasons why poverty still exist and is maintained are numerous, this is just one of those reasons you might not have thought about.

A necessary evil

The modern world is built on a financial system which relies on multiple elements; the population, resources, energy, and innovation. Each of these are in constant fluctuation, which makes this system be in constant fluctuation. There is a balancing game which needs to be played in order to maintain this system or else it crashes, there is nothing like evenly distributed resources, they are in constant fluctuation. Poverty is not just a consequence of these fluctuations, but also a necessity to maintain this system. To put it simply, if there weren’t enough poor people working hard to generate resources into this system, then the system will crash. Do you think it's the wealthy people working hard ?

Conclusion

Poverty is a necessity to maintain the financial system working, however it isn’t an inescapable fate. By understanding and using the system to your advantage, you can transition from poverty to wealthy. However, that will require a lot of hard work, discipline, determination, and commitment. Some people are able to escape poverty thanks to their parents hard work and all they inherit from them. But for others who didn’t get this opportunity, they’ll have to work very hard in order to overcome the chains of poverty. It's hard, but it's not impossible.
