Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing

They find safe haven in the words of a leader

By real JemaPublished 7 days ago 3 min read

Looking at this image of a wolf promising to become a vegetarian after getting elected took more than a laugh out of me. I keep seeing this image on my social feeds and there was always something which struck me as odd. It pricked my curiosity as to how on point this was with reality, and I am going to explain to you why.

The best part of this image for me is the smile on the faces of the sheep 😆. You can tell they are overwhelmed with joy, hope, and faith in every single word that comes out from the wolf’s mouth. This is a still image but yet you can feel their passion and all the emotions they have for this leader, it literally feels like it's their savior. I have seen those same expressions before, every time elections come around a good number of persons harbor the same expressions.

Their expression shows that they are exhausted with the status quo and desperately want a change. They find safe haven in the words of a leader who claims to be able to change things for the better. In him, they put all their trust, hopes, wishes and desires, hoping he will be different from the countless others who came before and arguably failed to meet their expectations. They are so much enthused that it's physically gratifying for them to literally worship this person.

A wolf remains a wolf

In all fairness, it's possible that the wolf may have good intentions, that he really aims at changing his ways and become a vegetarian. In the same way all those politicians who make amazing speeches infused with so much hope for the future and strategies to change the status quo, they might be right and well-intentioned. But a wolf can’t fight its own nature, and a temporary desire can’t replace your profound nature. When it looks at those chubby fragile sheep moving on and about defenseless, when it faces the physical repercussions of starving itself. At that moment, it will question its integrity and whether it cares about following through with its promises to the sheep.

Making the decision

The thing about elections is that once you’ve given the person the power, you can’t take it back until after a long period of time. You can’t just fire the person like any other ordinary job if they aren’t doing a good work or if they aren’t meeting up with expectations. With an ordinary position you get to be evaluated after every couple of months, but when it comes to elected positions, they have to take them to the end no matter how poorly the person performs.

When the wolf comes to this realization, that it is in power and can’t get kicked out, nothing is stopping it from doing what it wants. No matter what it does, whether It's vegan or not, you can’t take back the power you gave it. This means that even if it was well-intentioned in the beginning, it has enough time and reason to switch back to its natural instincts.

Conclusion

This is a perpetual cycle we are in, always hoping for something best. Sometimes it plays in our favor, and we do obtain something better, other times we are unlucky, and we get something worse. At the end of the day, the sheep in this image are delusional and don’t realize they are the prey, while the wolf is maliciously hiding behind fake promises it knows it can’t deliver on. Next time during elections, try to compare this picture side by side with what's going on, you will to surprised at the resemblance.
