It's 2024! Stop Pretending Interracial Couples are a Bad Thing

A look at how interracial couples have been on the receiving end of racist hate, with even the most prominent couple not being safe from horrible bigots

Happy Valentine's Day all! Love is definitely in the air on this day! You know what's the most beautiful thing about love? It comes in all forms. There are no set rules about who should be with who. As the saying goes, "The heart wants what the heart wants." That's beautiful. That should be respected and put on a pedestal. Unfortunately, some people just don't seem to feel that way.

Even when love is in the air, there seems to be some hate mixed in as well, and that hate is usually directed towards interracial couples...even now in 2024. Amazing how, despite so many forward steps society has taken, we all still take too many steps backwards when it comes to the concept of love, even though the entertainment world is chock full of interracial couples. Ice-T and Coco. Derek Jeter and Hannah Davis. Joshua Jackson and Jodie Turner-Smith. And so on, and so on, and so on.

The couple in the main photo is one very familiar to wrestling fans: Cody and Brandi Rhodes. I chose that pic because a) I'm a wrestling fan, b) it's WrestleMania season, and c) I've seen a lot of racists pick on Brandi Rhodes. They say she's not talented even though they've never even seen her. Now, to be fair, I haven't seen any bigoted comments about their marriage, but I wouldn't be surprised if some people are railing on Cody for having a Black wife. I have seen people trash comedian Bill Burr for having a Black wife as well.

So yeah, even the most famous interracial couples are on the receiving end of racist hatred. Including this one:

Harry and Meghan. We all know them well. I'm still amazed at Meghan Markle's route. When I first saw her, she was one of the briefcase models on Deal or No Deal, and I would see her in various roles, including a villainous role on Castle, since then. Meghan was also part of the cast of the USA Network series, Suits, and she was doing that show when she met Harry, and the rest is royal and regal history. The road to that point is very epic. What's not epic is how much hate the couple is getting because Meghan is Black.

Even worse, the hatred coming from Meghan's "royal" in-laws, mainly Kate Middleton--who's still bitter over Meghan being more popular than she ever will be. We've heard this for so, so long. I recall one of them (I swear it was Queen Elizabeth) actually voicing her fear about the color of Harry and Meghan's baby. That is true old-school racism right there. Yet a lot of the UK's media is telling the word that it's all in our heads when it's not. That includes Piers Morgan (who wants to be the British Tucker Carlson so badly) incessantly trashing Meghan every chance he gets. What a clown.

Another one who's not on Meghan's side is Chris Rock. Those of you who have read my story about Chris Rock (check it out here) know that his immensely controversial special, Selective Outrage, saw him totally pick on Meghan Markle, which included referring to her in-laws racist treatment of Meghan as "in-law problems"; totally dismissing and disregarding what she was really going through. Yeah, fuck off Chris.

As I said before, it's 2024. It's a very, very modern time right now. Yet the minds of some people are horrendously backward when it comes to seeing interracial couples. Again, there are no set rules when it come to love. It's all about a bond, chemistry, and just, well, having a connection. Race doesn't matter. It's all about following your heart.

Once again, Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!

Great topic to talk about. I am certainly a product of interracial. You get used to it in time. Who invented racism in the first place? People who have nothing better to do. I also been a support of Megan and Prince Harry. They really fought for their love for each other. Chris Rock has his own demons he has to conquer due to his life experience.

I've never heard of anyone bashing on Cody for being with Brandy. I think what you're looking it is claims of her not being that talented and assuming it's because she's black. She's not that great in the ring and I'd honestly rate her as a mid card level talent at best. She's definitely no where near the level of Sasha Banks/Mercedes Mone or Charlotte Flair. I do agree with the premise that mixed couples shouldn't be an issue. Brandy is hot and Cody's lucky to be with such a hottie. The fact they love each other should be enough for anyone.

Interracial couples are something that I've got no problem with. Thank you for discussing them in this article, Clyde.

It's good things are so much better now than in the 90s though. Interracial couples are seen everywhere. Before its like Robert Deniro had an african american wife for decades and the media never even mentioned it and almost kept it a secret.
