There remained the last of the two. Cities have been bombed. Two castaways were able to escape the big metropolis in a boat made out of spare wood from destroyed houses.

One carried out the task all sullen, at times depressed, crying not wanting to continue. But she thought if she could just voyage down to the tropical islands she could be alone, not being judged or with any care for the people around her. Her name was Dee. She could finally be alone with fresh fruits and exotic animals around her, she thought. Her exhilaration was exclaimed with a bitter tear.

The other was happy this viral outbreak finally happened. Was glad a bombing was necessary, too many violent people she thought, too much depression that had lead to suicide, murder, and now the viral outbreak that targeted all people in between was the nail in the coffin.

Joyfully, whistling, and a skip or two on her leg she built a small boat strong enough to carry her south to the Caribbeans. She could eat as many fresh fruits and domesticate a bunch of exotic animals and be happy with them day and night she thought. Her name was Nia.

The waters were brutal on their handmade boat. With all the rocking to and fro, plus the inundation of her fragile boat, Dee many times thought it would be better to jump into the Atlantic Ocean. At one point she was about to throw herself until the waters calmed and she heard a distant seagull cry.

Meanwhile Nia was welcoming of the rough waters. She got on top of the deck in the middle of the storm and laid out a loud cry to the gods: AAAHHH!

If it was her time to die she will die with all the Dopamine, Serotonin, and Adrenaline levels at max. Her neurochemical levels decreased upon seeing land up ahead.

The eyes had not been used to such natural bright colors. The leaves of the Palm trees were bright green. The ocean radiated from opaque green to a deep blue.

Upon disembarking Dee stepped on the white sand and felt it warming her entire body from feet to head. The humidity tangled her hair as she spit the salty water. Everything was too bright for her sensitive eyes.

After surveying the land she went deeper into the rain forest in hopes that she may not find any other human around. She saw a coconut tree and started to climb. Unable to get a foot hold, she fell and remained there withdrawn and pensive until she decided to try again.

Dee ripped two coconuts from it's stem, allowed it to fall, and slowly climbed down, scrapping her legs and arms in the process. She saw a sharp rock nearby, picked it up and violently stabbed at the coconut and screamed in pain as she had hit her thumb. Blood trickled down to the warm sand but finally she had opened the coconut. She held it up high and drank all its content, chocking at the same time.

Dee then saw a pool of clear water up ahead. She ran to it in hopes of finding a pink dolphin swimming there.

Nia remained ruminating in the sand, at times doing sand angels. The sun rays put a shine to her pearly whites. She was thirsty and couldn't drink the salty water. After looking around for a while she saw a coconut tree and without thinking twice immediately pounced on the stem. With little effort she was already up. She was so agile that she came down with two coconuts in one arm and only using her legs and one arm to climb down.

She gorged on the coconut water and meat. Feeling satisfied she looked around and saw a clear pool of water behind the shrubs.

Nia approached the water very slowly. Her heart pumping at the thought of finding an exotic animal swimming there. She smiled and called out for anyone. She bent her knees and looked at the crystal clear water. Finally, her smile and happiness started to disappear slowly. A drop of blood from her arms and thumb rippled in the still water.

Her reflection in the water mirrored back. It was Dee. Her frown very slowly turned to a smile.

They stood up never stopping eye contact and slowly started to walk into the water. One step and they were already waist deep. They continued to walk until they were engulfed and they both disappeared.
