PART TWO

At Christmas time, things turned out for the worst. Jack had died. That sent Jessie over the edge and she disappeared over the Christmas holidays. Nobody heard from Jessie till she returned for her final semester of school. With everything that had happened over that year, Jessie still managed to finish her program and graduate with honours.

Even though Jessie had everything she still felt very lost. Since that summer, she felt empty and stuck on what that particular weekend.

Jessie was on a rebel binge and she started to talk to her ex-boyfriend from high school. They started off as friends and it quickly turned into friends with benefits.

One night after a good night with Charlie, they were cuddling in bed and Charlie said: "I love you."

"What?" Jessie said, confused.

"I think we should be exclusive," said Charlie.

"Excuse me? Exclusive on what?" asked Jessie.

Charlie laughed. "Us. We should go exclusive, silly."

"Exclusive on what? Everyone knows we are already friends. So, what’s there to be exclusive on?" asked Jessie.

"Well, us being a couple," stated Charlie.

Jessie started laughing: "What are you talking about coming out as a couple? You first have to be a couple in order to go exclusive as one. And we aren't a couple."

Charlie looked so sad. "What do you mean? I love you."

"Dude, what are you talking about? Charlie, we are just friends. Friends who just have sex with no strings attached. You already know there will never be an ‘us’,” Jessie said, getting up and putting a t-shirt on. "I thought we already went over this. We are just friends with no strings attached. Nothing else."

"Yea but that was before," Charlie said while getting changed. "That was before I fell in love with you."

Charlie walked up to Jessie, kissed her and said: "I just can't be friends with you and go on like this. I'm sorry that I fell for you. I never intended for this to happen; it just did."

"Well, too bad. Either bottle it up and throw away the bottle or you need to leave," Jessie said while walking to the door and opening it.

"What? Come on Jes, don't do this," pleaded Charlie.

"What don't you understand? I'm just not into you," said Jessie. "It's over. Now get out!"

"Fine. Whatever. Fuck you," said Charlie as he walked out all pissed off.

That was pretty much the last time Jessie had seen Charlie. Soon after Jessie had found a nice house in Ancaster and moved in by the end of the summer.

Jessie was still distracted by what had happened between Jack dying and what had happened last summer. Elizabeth was over one night.

“Why don’t you try a dating app?” suggested Elizabeth. Since Elizabeth knew what awful anniversary was coming up.

“Bahh. Those things are so stupid,” replied Jessie. “As far as you know, you could meet up with some creep.”

“That’s true. But what else is there to do? Not like you’ll marry the guy.”

A couple of nights later, Jessie tried using the dating app and scored a date with a cute guy. Saturday night came and Jessie had met her date at the restaurant.

Jessie arrived at the restaurant and upon rolling into the parking lot she was shocked how fancy this restaurant was. It reminded her of a scene out of a movie. Jessie walked into the restaurant and started to look around for the guy she was meeting to maybe to see if she see him.

“Hi, I’m Brian,” Brian had stood up from the table to introduce himself.

“Hello, I’m Jessie,” replied Jessie.

Throughout the dinner, Brian ended up making the whole night about himself, and Jessie just felt awkward. He kept on hitting on her, not reading her nonverbal cues of disinterest. Jessie had a bad feeling about this date.

After they finished dinner, Brian suggested to go out for some drinks. Jessie figured why the hell not it was a night out of the house and what else could possibly go wrong? Jessie figured she’d play along with the guy. It's not like she'd ever go home with him anyway. But, when they got to the bar, things did end up getting worse than they already were. Brian was just being a total ass. After a few drinks, Brian ended up feeling up Jessie and suggested to go back to his place.

Jessie tried to stay flirty without pissing him off she said: "How about you hold that thought, so I can go powder my nose?"

Jessie gave a giggle then slipped off to the Ladies' room. In hysterics, Jessie called Matt. When she called him, she didn't actually think he'd pick up for one so when he did pick up.

"Matt?"

In a voice that sounded like a sleepy one, "Yeah? Who is this?

"It-it-it's Jessy. Jack's old girlfriend," Jessie said, hysterically.

Matt sat up in bed more alert, "Jessie? What's up? You okay?"

"No. I-I-I didn't know who to call-" Jessie tried to explain

"Where are you?" Asked Matt.

"Downtown at The Ship bar," said Jessie.

Jessie didn't know if Matt was coming or not. But she knew that she had to leave. Jessie fixed herself up and when she left the Ladies' room Brian was standing on the outside of the washrooms. It startled her.

Jessie gasped: "Oh, you scared me!"

"Sorry love," as he crept closer to her and pinned her up against the wall and kissed her neck. "How about we take this somewhere private? Let's go back to my place."

Jessie had pushed him off, "NOO!"

Then she practically ran out the door. The guy had followed her outside.

"Hey!" as he chased her outside and grabbed her arm. "What the fuck? Don't you want to go home with me?"

He then pinned her up against his truck, trying to kiss her and put his hand up her dress. Jessie tried to push him off of her. Matt had pulled up at the perfect time. Matt got out of his car and grabbed the guy off of Jessie.

"You son of a bitch!" said Matt as he punched the guy in the face, making her attacker fall to the ground. Then Matt had gotten on top of Brian and started walking at and just beating him.

Jessie tried to pull Matt off of him; “Mattie! Stooopp!!”

On accident, Matt had stood up and knocked Jessie over and she landed on the ground. Matt realized what happened and Jessie both embarrassed and traumatized tried to brush him off. Shaken, Matt helped Jessie into his car, and he sped off.

"Do you want to tell me what had happened back there?" asked Matt.

Jessie couldn't find the words. She just looked out the window, trying to fight back the tears of what just happened.

Not really paying attention to where they were, Matt suggested that maybe she should spend the night at his house in case the guy followed her. Jessie was really distraught at this point and had a little too much to drink over the course of the night to retaliate. Matt tried again on getting what happened out of her. But when she started to talk, it turned into her crying. Matt didn't really know what to do but to grab her and kiss her. Jessie, a little too drunk for her own good, kissed him back.

The next thing Jessie knew she was waking up the next morning realizing she wasn’t in her own room.

'Oh no,' She thinks to herself. 'I didn't.'

Not wanting to admit to what might have happened the night before, she looked over and saw Matt was still sleeping and tried to quickly get up grab her stuff, and take off before Matt woke up. But as she texted Elizabeth to come to get her. Matt woke up.

“Hey,” said Matt.

“I have to go,” Jessie replied trying to not make conversation. Scrabbling to find her clothes.

Matt jumped out of bed and caught her before she ran out the door: "Wait, Jes. Please. We should talk about last night."

"What's there to talk about? Thank you for coming to get me. But there's really nothing to talk about. I got myself in some trouble. I called you. You came. We kissed and, now we’re talking. There. We talked."

Elizabeth messaged Jessie that she was here. Jessie ran out, leaving Matt hanging. When she got downstairs, she hopped in the car.

"What happened?" asked Derek, Elizabeth's boyfriend. "Thought you were on a date? How did you end up at Matt's?"

She told them what happened from the start of the date until she woke up in Matt's bed. As they drove her home, still dumbfounded of how it all happened.

Elizabeth and Derek dropped her off at home and made sure she was ok before they left.

After two weeks of being ignored, Matt felt like Jessie was leaving him hanging and he didn't want to be used like this. Matt called Elizabeth to see what was up. Elizabeth told him to just go over.

'I don't know why I'm so hung up on this girl,' Matt thought to himself as he was driving over to Jessie's house. 'It's not like we really talked much before. Not even when Jack was alive.'

Matt knocked on Jessie's door, hoping she would answer. When she answered, he froze and didn't know what to do. In the back of his head, Matt had hoped that she didn't answer.

"Matt? What are you doing here?" Jessie asked in confusion.

"I just wanted to talk. When you never texted back, I thought--"

"Thought you would just come over and what?" Jessie had said sarcastically.

"Well, you called me remember?" said Matt.

"Yes, I remember. And you came and helped me. We went back to your house and we talked," She was now getting agitated. "What do you want Matt?"

"No, we didn't talk about what happened. I want you to tell me what happened and how you managed to get there in the first place," Matt thought if he tried to push it a bit, he'd get the answers he wanted.

"Why does it matter anyway?" asked Jessie.

"I don't appreciate being used and being run out on," said Matt.

"Said every girl ever," Jessie replied sassily.

The conversation had moved into the living room.

"Come on," Matt exhaled.

"What does this have anything to do with you anyway?" asked Jessie.

"Because you get yourself in trouble and you call me, of all people, you call me. You’re going to tell me what happened and how you got there," exclaimed Matt.

“Well, there’s nothing to explain. I also don’t you an explanation anyways. You didn’t have to answer my call you know,” Jessie said getting annoyed.

"Oh," said Matt.

Matt had grabbed Jessie and put his hands around the sides of her face and kissed her. Jessie had slightly responded to the kiss and tried to convince herself she didn’t enjoy it before:

“What are you doing!” Jessie pushed Matt off of her.

“I-I’m sor-” Matt tried to apologize but Jessie had pulled him in and kissed him.

They made their way up to Jessie’s room.

"Are you sure?" asked Matt.

"Yea," chocked Jessie.

As they kissed, deep down a part of Jessie knew it was wrong on what they were doing because Matt had a girlfriend. But why should that stop her? It would be all on Matt since he would be the one in the wrong. As Matt slowly kissed her neck Jessie completely forgot the fact, she was the side chick. Slowly moving to her chest area and taking off her bra like it was nothing. Did Jessie actually like Matt or the thought of him? By the time she could finish that thought, she was suddenly distracted by the fact that her panties and his boxers were now on the floor.

'Am I really going to go through with this?' she thought to herself. ‘You know what fuck it.’

"You ok?" Matt asked with concern.

"Mhm," replied Jessie.

"We don't have to--"

"I want to," said Jessie as she cut off Matt with a kiss. She managed to flip him over. "So, shhh."

To which this drove him crazy and didn't last long before he flipped her over on her back.

When they finished, they laid there under the covers, looking up at the ceiling. "Soo," Jessie said awkwardly.

Too awkward to say anything she just rolled over and put her head on Matt's chest.

Jessie woke up the next morning to find Matt was gone and was relieved that he left. At the same time, Jessie was upset because Matt came over to talk and it ended up with having sex and he left in the middle of the night. Which made her think of what his intentions were? At the same time, he does have a girlfriend so, she left it at that.

Jessie got out of bed, put a baggy shirt on, and went downstairs for some coffee. Jessie's phone dinged. It was a text from Matt: 'Hey, sorry about what happened last night. Didn't mean to get as far as it did. Hope we can still be friends.'

"Oh," said Jessie feeling kind of hurt.

Least she knew what his intentions were. Sort of. 'Well he does have a girlfriend so can't really be mad. I don’t want to be anyone side chick anyways,' Jessie thought to herself.

A couple of days later, Jessie received a text from Matt stating that his girlfriend found out and wouldn’t be a good idea to talk anymore. To which didn't really make a difference because they hardly talked much anyway, so not as it mattered. Jessie didn't even bother to reply.

Jessie called Elizabeth and told her what had happened with Matt. Elizabeth laughed and couldn't believe what had happened and told her not to worry about it.

Jessie agreed and didn’t worry about it. Until one night, Jessie heard banging at the door. So, she went to answer the door and it was Matt’s girlfriend.

"Can I help you?" Jessie asked cautiously.

With the most attitude you could get from one person she replied: "You can help me by staying away from my boyfriend, you skank."

"Excuse me?" Jessie was stunned.

"You heard me. He told you to stay away," she said.

"For one you psycho bitch, he keeps calling and fucking texting me as you read in his texts. It was him that kept on messaging me and don't know if you notice I never reply. He's the one not getting the point of all the missed calls and ignored messages. Two he's the one that came here to talk and a couple of days later you saw the messages and that's when he suggested not to talk anymore. I haven't talked to him since that night. You psychotic bitch. I have no interest in Matt, it's all in your head," explained Jessie.

"That's not what he said this morning," she said in the cockiest way.

"What are you talking about," Jessie was now getting annoyed.

"He said you guys fucked, and he dipped off and told you not to contact him anymore," exclaimed Psycho.

"I don't know if you're just stupid or mental, but I've told you I want nothing to do with him and you said you read the messages. You went through the phone so why the fuck you are over here. You should be over at his house ripping him a new one for cheating on you," Jessie replied.

The girlfriend had pushed herself Jessie and went to the bathroom. Jessie called Matt and after a couple of rings, he picked up: "Hello?"

"What the hell Matt?" said Jessie all pissed off.

"Jes? Look we can't ta--"

"Talk? Yea I know. Your psycho girlfriend decided to come over and give me 'the talk'," Jessie said sarcastically.

"Wait, she's there?" asked Matt.

"Yea, she just stormed into the bathroom," said Jessie.

"Oh, fuck," said Matt worriedly.

"Huh--" said Jessie.

Psycho screamed from the bathroom.

As Jessie ran to the bathroom, she can here Matt ask what's going on through the phone. Jessie had run into the bathroom and his girlfriend was on the floor. She slashed her leg open.

In horror all Jessie could get out was: "What did you do?!"

"What is going on?” asked Matt.

"She slashed her leg open. She needs to go to the hospital," said Jessie.

"Jessie, no! I'll be right over," said Matt.

"Matt, she's fucking bleeding on my fucking bathroom floor. She needs help, she needs a doctor!" exclaimed Jessie. "I'm calling 911."

Jessie hung up on Matt and called an ambulance, Matt got into his car and raced to Jessie's house. When Matt arrived, the ambulance just pulled away and Jessie was talking to the police.

When Jessie finished with the police, Matt had gone up to her and asked; “Can we talk?”

"She did a nice job on her leg. The police are going to meet her at the hospital," at the point Jessie was livid. Not just at the fact that Matt's girlfriend came over, attacked her, and tried to commit suicide in her bathroom, but the fact that Matt had allowed it to get this far.

"Look Jes, I'm sorry okay?" exclaimed Matt.

"You know what Matt? I don't want to hear it. Maybe you should take your own advice and stop fucking talking. Clearly, this isn't going anywhere," said Jessie.

As Jessie walked back inside, she heard Matt call after her: "Jes, come on, are you really going to do this? I’m sorry, okay?"

~

A few months have gone by since that awful night when she heard a knock at the door. It was Matt with flowers.

"What do you want, Matt?" Jessie asked.

"I'm sorry. I don't know what I was thinking. I did get her to get the help,” explained Matt. “I broke up with her."

“Look, Matt-” Jessie tried to push him away.

“Jessie, please. I’m sorry. She’s gone,” pleaded Matt.

“Matt, I don’t think-” Jessie had a bad feeling about where this was going.

“Look, I understand if you just want to be friends-” Matt was watching her facial expressions. Jessie looked uncomfortable. “Or don’t want to. That’s fine too. I just want to come and apologize for what happened.”

Matt had started to walk away. Without giving her the flowers.

“Matt!” Matt had a turnaround. “Who are the flowers for?”

“Oh,” Matt laughed awkwardly. “There actually for you, sorry.”

Matt gave the flowers to Jessie. Jessie smells the flowers and looks up at Matt. Matt is standing there with his hands in his pockets looking at his feet shifting his weight from one leg to another thinking if he made a mistake on coming here. He looks soo sad.

“Matt?”

“Yea?”

“I would actually like to be friends. If you’re still up to being friends?”

“Yea, of course,” Matt smiled. Jessie had gestured Matt inside.
