Cecil
Molly Long There was a heavy fog settled over the Hackensack River. It was cold, so cold I felt my bones ache with every step I took. I was on my way to Holy Name Cemetery, taking a shortcut through Lincoln Park. It was nearly sunset, the perfect time to lie in the grass and reflect on the lives of long departed souls. I saw the shining marble walls of the mausoleum as I approached my destination, and let out a sigh of relief through my shivering lips.

Hunting
After about an hour or so of meditating, my alarm goes off. It's time to get ready, I think to myself. Once the alarm is turned off, I check the weather on my phone. Seeing there was no chance of rain today I decide to wear a black short sleeve T-shirt with dark blue jeans and a pair of black chucks for the finishing touch. Moving to the full length mirror to see what I look like, noticing my hair is a bit flat due to no product. Adding a little mousse to give my hair a little bit of a wavy volume look made me think of my assistant Jill.

The invisible forces
All throughout my life I have been on the hunt for the unknown. My journey started when I was seven years old and I heard strange noises coming from an empty room across the hall from where I was sleeping and nobody was home because my mom and dad went out on a date so I was home alone I went to go check it out and I saw a shadow figure walk across the hall and then disappear. To my surprise no one was home and all the doors were locked so there’s no way someone came in. Terrified I ran to my room and jumped under my blanket hoping that whatever it was Could not harm me. After that day I’ve always been fascinated with the unknown so I tried to call out to them the spirit entities and figure out whether they’re angels or demons. What I’m going to describe to you next is a series of events that took place during my experiment with summoning these spirit beings into reality. first off I had to teach myself a little more about them so I started to read a lot of literature on summoning of spirits or conjurings so that way I could get a feel of what Needs to be done in order to have the spirit manifest right in front of my eyes. So on the night of the full moon I went about gathering all the items required and I went into the dark wilderness a very lonely place where I will be undisturbed by outside influences and at that moment I started to have some fear about what would happen If these entities were to appear what would I do and what would they ask of me in return. Well now having gotten past my fear I begin to set up the tools required for the summoning spirits. I formed a giant circle of salt and then I placed candles on each four points of the circle and I started burning sage and then I begin to recite the incantation. After about a half an hour so I started to hear some strange noises that begin to freak me out so I looked around and I called out into the dark “is anybody out there” and then I heard a voice say “yes” very Horsley and then I heard some trees start to rattle around and I looked around and I saw an owl perched on a branch staring directly at me and it was as if we had this unseen connection that by our thoughts we started to communicate with each other. he told me and I say he because the voice that I heard through my thoughts was masculine in nature but what he said to me I’ll never forget he said that the journey starts here the quest of understanding and knowledge of inner knowing are the keys to the path of enlightenment at first I was baffled by what he had said to me being someone who has limited himself by giving in to old closed minded ways that limit me from grasping what was said. So I approached what he said with an open mind that’s all I could do. So I began to recite the closing incantation to close the circle and was satisfied with the success I made in summoning a spirit entity so I get in my car after packing all the supplies in the box put it in the backseat and drove off on my way back home. I felt exhausted from the whole summoning. It’s so interesting how doing things of that nature can really drain your psyche I guess that’s the energy that was needed in order to have the spirit manifests itself or something like that. So on my way home I see this figure in the backseat of my car but when I look to see and it disappears, it’s like in the corner of my eye and every time I look to see it disappears well it’s like the spirit from the woods is following me back home. I just want to make it home and take a shower and get into some comfortable clothes and the drive is taking a little longer then expected. I finally make it to the parking structure I parked my car and as I get out of my car I hear voice from the back of the parking structure call my name at that moment I was frightened so I begin to rush up the stairs because I didn’t want to wait for the elevator or allow my fear to get the best of the situation and make my way to my apartment as I reach for the keys in my pocket to open the door I felt a cool breeze passed behind my neck as if someone was breathing down my neck now I know that there’s something that’s followed me home and there’s no way of knowing what this entity has in mind for me. So I Turn on the TV to get my mind off of what just happened but I couldn’t seem to concentrate I kept hearing my name being called I didn’t know what to do so I asked again out loud “what is it , what do you want of me can I help you with something” and it said “yes”he told me to go find some rosemary lavender and sage and to draw circle on the floor and write the symbols that I got a mental image of inside the circle I did everything the entity asked. Once I felt satisfied that everything was set to his specificationsI was getting ready to begin the spell craft that the spirit asked of me when all of a sudden my phone rings twice I picked up the phone but no one was on the other end it was silent I said to myself someone must be prank calling me but then the phone rang again this time when I answered it it was as if voice from beyond the grave spoke to me simply saying to be careful of what I was doing some type of dire warning but I continue to do you spell craft anyways and to my surprise The spell came out fairly accurate to the specifications of the spirit now All I wanted to do was the usual brush my teeth wash my face and get ready for bed so later on that night I was awoken in the middle of a dream it was three in the morning And the dream that I had woken up from was pretty strange it was about a lion that was biting on my hand and he wouldn’t let go and he just kept tugging at my hand I thought he was going to rip it off I needed to wake up I was find it difficult to wake up I feel like something was standing on my chest. I was paralyzed by fear, I couldn’t move but just lay there and as I start to open my eyes I see this ghastly figure standing on my chest holding me down and another entity standing at the foot of my bed pointing at me with red eyes glowing it said nothing at and just pointed at me and started to move-and try to twist and turn but nothing would happen I tried to scream at the top of my lungs but nothing came out it was as if entity on my chest had pinned me down while the other one was pointing at me with red Crimson eyes Finally after what seemed like two hours I was able to recover my ability to move around again and I was terrified after this night I couldn’t sleep for weeks to come, terrified that it might happen again. A few weeks have passed since that day and everything’s been back to normal but every now and then I get the feeling that someone’s watching me from the other side of the veil of life so I hope this be a reminder to you that reality is stranger then your wildest dreams the fact that where here right now-is completely a mystery and I have seen with the darkness does say goodbye to who I was.

Reed's Literary Horror Review of 'Blood of the Sun' by Lee Murray and Dan Rabarts (2020)
I'm impressed by the way this writer duo created vivid scenes using very subtle descriptions. The best way to captivate your audience is to let the reader construct their own experience between what's described and what's not. Getting too bogged down in the details can be a slog. For readers like me, with severe ADHD, too much detail is sure to stymie the imagination and make the read boring. So, when a writer casually works the details in with the flow of the stories and characters, It makes for better immersion and a far more enjoyable read... for me anyway.

A bit odd
A couple nights ago, a friend and I went to a 169 year old cemetery that has been somewhat forgotten. Not forgotten enough to not be mowed by some random mowing company. But enough so that the headstones have been knocked over and not fixed. Let alone any kind of flowers left behind for the dearly departed loved ones. As I was walking around though, my friend said he noticed what appeared to be a shadow figure pacing back and forth between a couple headstones 20-25 feet away from me. Only to disappear whenever I started walking back to the car.

Who are they?
Who are they? Its been 13 whole days since I last seen them. Where did they go? I thought I was clear of them for once in my life but I was wrong. Where did they go and why were they gone for so long? Why have they returned? What is so interesting about me that they came back? Did they go to another lost soul and actually accomplish what they wanted from that person? I must ask these questions but I know I will not get an answer. Again the male and female both stand there and stare at me with the blank faces and white eyes. Are they searching for who I really am? Are they searching for what they need inside my soul? Why have you returned please answer me. Please tell me why you came back to me. I won't lie when I say I did miss seeing you. I got so used to waking up and seeing you there, coming around the corner and you both just staring at me. Knowing someone or something was there even if your dead or from another life.

Dark of the Woods
I first met Thomas under the Lonely Bridge. We called it the Lonely because it no longer had any utility. It was a small wooden bridge that spanned a ravine on the western edge of town. The problem was it no longer led to anything but some dense growth that stood in front of an even denser forest. I’m not sure what used to lay beyond it but we’ll come back to that.
