This wild valley is not only inhospitable due to its rugged terrain, weather, and wildlife, but is also known for some unexplained stories. Over the decades, there have been unfortunate travelers and explorers who have gone missing. Some people were also found beheaded.

The increasing number of bodies found in the Nahanni Valley has earned it the nickname "Valley of the Headless Men".

Few people know that the Nahanni valley was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1978. In fact, it was one of the first four natural heritage sites to be recognized.

Due to its remote location, the Nahanni Valley has remained largely untouched over the centuries. Historically, the lands surrounding the Nahanni Valley were inhabited by peoples of the Dene indigenous tribe. According to stories passed down through generations, there is another tribe here called Naha.

The Dene people are descendants of the Yellowknife Indians

The warrior tribe evaporated without a trace

It is said that the Naha people were a warlike tribe, living in the high mountains and descending to the plains to raid and kill. They became the main enemies of the Dene people.

However, according to the story, the Naha people disappeared completely without a trace. They left without leaving any trace. People come up with many hypotheses such as maybe they migrated to other places, succumbed to disease, slowly died, or they simply chose to live in seclusion. However, it all just stops at speculation.

Later, strange deaths and disappearances in the Nahanni valley again sparked mysteries surrounding this place. The most notable place is "200 Mile Canyon". The natives say that an unknown evil resides there.

The origins of this strange nickname can be traced back to the early 20th century, at the time of the "Klondike Gold Rush". Many people who want to try their luck go to the remote wilderness of Canada, especially the Yukon. The reason is because they heard that there is a lot of gold mixed in the river and land here.

Among them, two people decided to try their luck in the Nahanni Valley. They were two brothers of Métis origin named Willie and Frank McLeod. In 1906, they canoed upriver to the Nahanni Valley, and that was the last time anyone saw them alive.

Two years later, a search party discovered their skeletons. Both are headless. Apparently, they were sleeping when they were attacked. One of their companions named Weir has gone missing.

From here, the mysteries become increasingly thrilling. Who is the culprit? What did they encounter? Rumors began to spread, and many theories were put forward.

Looking for solutions for headless victims

An article from the February 15, 1947 issue of the newspaper "Deseret News", titled "Myths of the Headless Valley Dispelled", tried to debunk all the mysteries and find out logic for the murders here. However, most of the article's content is unfounded and is just speculation.

In 1927, another body was discovered in Nahanni, belonging to a man nicknamed "Yukon" Fisher. This man had been hunted by the police for several years before his death. Officials found his skeleton on the banks of Bennett Creek, quite close to where the bodies of the McLeod brothers were found in 1908. His cause of death has never been clarified.

Since then, mysterious deaths continued to occur in the Nahanni Valley. In 1945, a miner from Ontario was found dead while still in his sleeping bag. His head was never found.

In the end, no one could accurately explain the creepy events that took place inside the mysterious Nahanni Valley. Up to 44 people died or went missing in there starting in 1908. Strange stories have brought a gloomy color to this place.

Others say that the Nahanni valley is the entrance to the "Hollow Earth". In fact, this place has many underground caves. According to estimates, about 250 caves have been found and many places are still unexplored.

However, Nahanni is a mysterious land. People are still looking for answers here and hope that one day this secret curtain will be revealed.
