Killers of the Flower Moon
With many crime film hits through the decades, Martin Scorsese has often set the rules for the genre. The formula often involves fast-talking, violent mobsters breaking in and out of the criminal underworld. He returns to more historical trappings with Killers of the Flower Moon, another excellent production that embraces both heritage and a more emotive tone.

10 Great Horror Movies of the Weimar Republic
The Weimar Republic era of cinema has always been of interest to me and has also been one of my main eras of study whilst on my M.A and undergraduate degrees. I have been fascinated by the blends of light and dark, the chosen tinting colour schemes, the change from orchestral scores to talking pictures, the flatlands, the societal impact, the metaphors and the atmospheres. It is true that for the Weimar Republic, horror films had been born out of societal change, panic and guilt. If you would like to know more about the society that bore the first horror era of cinema then read this article I wrote about it.

My Top 100 Horror Movies! Part 1. Content Warning.
so spooky season is upon us again,it's one of my favorite times of the year and so I figure why not share 100 of my favorite horror films that I like to watch every year even though I don’t get around to watching every single one. Because that’s a lot of movies, but these are the ones that I continuously come back to over and over again. Or that I like the most and some of them include recent titles, which is surprising.

The Societal Issues of the Weimar Republic (1918-1933) as Reflected in its Cinema
As discussed in Part 1 of this "series" (sorry for the long break) on the cinema of the Weimar Republic entitled “The Return of the Native Monster” we had a look at how some of the different themes and symbols explored by many German Expressionist films made their way into the post-1960s deluge of horror movies usually nicknamed ‘The Golden Age of Horror’ due to the films being central to the progression of the genre. In this paper we will be looking at the historical implications of the Weimar Republic and how the German Expressionist genre grew out of the issues caused by the societies people lived in. Unlike the detached Hollywood which has no clue as to how real people live, the cinema of the Weimar Republic was carefully interwoven with its public, normally expressing social critiques of the working class through its cinematography, storylines, symbolism and more. In this paper we will be exploring some of the best-known German Expressionist films such as “Nosferatu” (1922) and “The Cabinet of Dr Caligari” (1920), and we will also be looking at lesser known classics such as “The Hands of Orlac” (1924). Alongside all of this, we will also use historical information to show us how German Expressionism ended on a high note in the 1930s roughly a few years before Hitler’s Hollywood in Germany kicked into action and pretty much ruined it for everyone. The high note being how they almost perfectly showed the audiences of today the fears of the post-World War One German people - especially their working class. No matter how many social reforms, combatting crime and welfare systems the government tried to bring in, it was never enough to solve the problem of the lost working class who would, in turn, make up the next ‘lost generation’ born of European instability.

Maxed Out on Horror, for a While . Top Story - October 2023.
In honor of upcoming Halloween, I have composed two haiku verses about my experience with horror movies. A little background for context: in summers of 1989, 1990, and 1991, while a university student, I had a job as a train car attendant serving long-distance trains. When I was off my shift, I used to go to the video salon car to watch pirated American movies that were over-flooding our previously scarce entertainment options since Gorbachev started perestroika.

Halloween Vibes Starring Vincent Price . Top Story - October 2023.
Millennials might know him as the old guy who recited the spooky spoken word sequence at the end of Michael Jackson’s 1984 mega hit, Thriller. Here's a video of Price reciting the piece live on The Joan Rivers Show.

The Meg 2
I vaguely remember seeing The Meg at a drive in theater during shark week. And though I personally am very confused by the fascination with shark movies I think The Meg is a delightful kind of bad. So when I found out that The Meg was getting a sequel I was very excited. You know a movie is going to be plotless when it stars Jason Stathem. So here we go with my thoughts on The Meg 2: The Trench.

Movie Review: "The Nun 2" (2023)
Warning: Spoilers! I have to be perfectly honest with you, I am a massive fan of the Conjuring Universe films and I will watch every single one as long as they keep making them. My personal favourite so far has been The Nun with The Conjuring 2 coming in at a close second, though I do acknowledge that The Conjuring 2 is probably a better film to many people. I feel like these films really reignited my love of horror movies and they also echoed back to the golden age of horror cinema. The films retain a certain quality that more than often, other horror films miss - the element and importance of silence. The storytelling and tension is there because of these moments of complete silence and then, whether something takes place within it is entirely up to the director of the movie.
