Codes of honour in John Wick 3: Parabellum
Why do I like John Wick 3? To begin with, and one eventually does, the title pays attention to the word. The word, understood not merely in its stupidity, as some petrified object cast in stone, which has nothing to do with stone, but is a metaphor for how it is understood. Parabellum, I learn is from the second half of a Latin phrase ‘Si vis pacem, para bellum’ which translates to ‘if you want peace prepare for war’. I suppose one may hypothesise that there is something which happens when a word becomes a name, even if, as in this case - the name for a bullet. It looses some of the context from which it rises from and becomes a placeholder, a tag for something else whose relation to the utterance in question remains, for the most of it, completely arbitrary. John Wick 3 is a film that, while very much a gun-fu movie, does not facilitate such a procedure, or rather does not facilitate it as such.
"Kate" REVIEW
In July of 2002, Matt Damon stepped into the role of Jason Bourne, the world's deadliest assassin. In June of the same year, Tom Hanks played the part of Michael Sullivan in Road to Perdition, the world's deadliest hitman. 2003 brought us Kill Bill and Uma Thurman's infamous and exceptionally-deadly character, the Bride.

In this chapter of ‘the filmmaker’s guide’ we’re actually going to be learning about literature and film together. I understand that many of you are sitting in university during difficult times and finding it increasingly hard to study and I understand that many of you who are not at university or not planning on it are possibly stuck of what to do, need a break or even need to catch up on learning film before you get to the next level. This guide will be brief but will also contain: new vocabulary, concepts and theories, films to watch and we will be exploring something taboo until now in the ‘filmmaker’s guide’ - academia (abyss opens). Each article will explore a different concept of film, philosophy, literature or bibliography/filmography etc. in order to give you something new to learn each time we see each other. You can use some of the words amongst family and friends to sound clever or you can get back to me (email in bio) and tell me how you’re doing. So, strap in and prepare for the filmmaker’s guide to film studies because it is going to be one wild ride.

Garfield gets real, Garfield's Fun Fest and Garfield's Pet Force are the three movies I watched. I recalled some aspects of Garfield's Pet Force from a few years back but finding them on Netflix was interestingly nostalgic.

'Vive AkughaPublished 3 years ago in GeeksMovie Review: 'Dogs' From Director Bogdan Mirica
Dogs found fame at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival but is only finding an American release now via Dekanalog. This crime thriller about an outsider who comes to a small village following the death of his Uncle only to find trouble with his Uncle’s former gang of violent criminals is a stark and striking first feature from director Bogdan Mirca. Dogs is unrelentingly sparse and dry but the visceral impact of the action is as great as any big budget American thriller

When it comes to Truman Capote it’s fair to wonder if there is anything new to learn about the man. Capote’s life and work have been explored in books, television series, documentaries and even a pair of biographical films released within a year of each other, Capote starring Phillip Seymour Hoffman in 2005 and Infamous starring Toby Jones, released in 2006. More recently a stage play and documentary was made regarding Capote’s friendship with Tennessee Williams, a fellow tempestuous writer with a lengthy and well documented history.

Dalmy AlvesPublished 3 years ago in GeeksMovie Review: 'Ema' From Director Pablo Larrain
Director Pablo Lorrain is stepping onto the world stage this awards season thanks to his biopic on Princess Diana titled, Spencer. And while star Kristen Stewart is getting most of the publicity for her reportedly uncanny performance as Princess Di, Pablo Larrain has me excited about his career and where he’s headed. Not just because I have heard great things about Spencer but rather because I have seen and been blown away by Lorrain’s remarkable 2019 feature, Ema, a shocking, provocative and exhilarating film.
