Should You Buy A PS4 Or Wait For The PS5?
The PlayStation 5 is rapidly approaching. According to Sony, we can expect its latest console in the holiday season this year. It's not far away, so if your interest in the PS5 is even remotely piqued (which it absolutely should), you should start saving up money for it. We already know that there might be a parts shortage, so stocks are going to be pretty scarce indeed. Next-generation gaming should be your top priority.

Contra is Back!!!! - And with a white hot fury that would leave some wondering what a contra even is or why its so awesome as the are defined by the sounds of explosions and laser noises. If you where one of the few people allowed to sign up for the Beta of this game for mobile, then you are all too familiar with the opening screeching 80's style guitar that is the Contra opening, an opening that says- "This is Contra you are playing- and nothing else."
Epitome PublishingPublished 3 years ago in GamersSandbox and Openworld Games
Sandbox or openworld games give us the impression of choice and freewill (very Matrix-y) that we can do as we please in this world to get to where we need to be. This is often far from the truth, and we do have to complete objective A or speak with a certain character, or we have to execute a mission in a particular manner before the story will move on. Also, if we fail said mission then we simply fail it, and get reset back to a point in time able to try again. So therefore openworld games, aren’t very ‘open’ and there is often only one/a few choices to be a made to get us onto the next segment of the game so therefore there is lack of free choice or will to be exercised in games other than option A B or C (also very…Matrix-y with the illusion of freewill).

I can still remember sitting at work when a news report announced the impending release of the PlayStation 2 and rumours of a new console under development from Microsoft. The eponymous ‘Xbox’ sounded more akin to a manufacturer's code name rather than the given name of what would become a massively successful gaming institution.

Ok, I’m going to start off with a confession. I guess you can say I've spent my whole life threading the needle. At one stage I was a compulsive gambler, and it was bad… really bad. Sure I’ve made light of it and even said to some in a bragging fashion that the most I’ve lost in a night was 30 thousand dollars. I’m sure this candid fact will shock and anger some who understand the value of money. I'd say when it comes to gambling my rock bottom was leaving one of my ex's with strange movers from craigslist, while I got stuck on the roulette table at a local casino called Arizona Charlies. It was supposed to be just to cash a check, but turned into the whole night and admittedly I left my ex there in the upscale Vegas apartment with no money or supervision while I gambled the night, and my money away.

Which gaming system is best for you, and most worthy of your money is a hotly contested topic these days, once more brought to the fore by the release of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Many pundits and fanboys/fangirls are eager to tell you their favourite is best, with each console’s spec sheet quoted, compared, and contrasted to support their view.

Being frozen in cryostasis only to wake up in a galaxy far, far away by a mad scientist is a science fiction trope that has been done more than a few times. Obsidian’s approach to this is as unique as their backstory is. Founded in 2003 by the developers of the original Fallout games after Black Isle Studios' closure, Obsidian has more than made a huge name in the industry for themselves. After working on games such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords and even more famously Fallout: New Vegas, Obsidian released a game in 2019 names The Outer Worlds.

I remember when I was eleven years old. As a Cub Scout, my dad got me a subscription to Boys' Life magazine (now called Scouts Life). One of the semi-regular columns in it was the "Readers' Page" which, like Reader's Digest, allowed people to submit their own stories for publication. I submitted a little story to the magazine. I can't remember what it was about as that was over thirty years ago, but I distinctly remember the joy I felt when I received a letter telling me my piece was to be published along with a check for $25. (Snicker if you want, but that was a lot of money for an eleven-year-old in 1990.) At that point, I knew what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to write.

Okay, I have a confession to make. I like to collect vintage electronics. Stuff like old TV’s, VCR’s and more. But my biggest obsession is old video game consoles. When people come into my house and see all the “junk” they will often have one question for me, why? It’s not a bad question really, especially considering how easy it is to emulate software and the plethora of new video games that are coming out all the time. Why collect and play old video games and consoles? Like with many things in life there are multiple reasons. One might consider the necessity of archiving and conserving the past, especially in light of the fact that many of the companies who make these games do not feasibly have the fiscal resources to do so themselves. In the early two thousand’s it was revealed that SquareEnix had accidentally erased the files related to Final Fantasy 8 and 9 as well as Kingdom Hearts and other popular games from their hard drives. This and other incidents left many people interested in the preservation of games wondering who would take the initiative to conserve this medium of storytelling and artistic expression. Museums were opened and online forums established by the community to record and archive the enormous amounts of information related to this still growing media which includes more than just games. Artwork, manuals, news articles, magazines and even code are all collected and stored somewhere. But more than these the community of collectors take in hardware, clean it up or repair it and keep it in their own personal archives to preserve for posterity and to enjoy.
