Should You Buy A PS4 Or Wait For The PS5?

The PlayStation 5 is rapidly approaching

The PlayStation 5 is rapidly approaching. According to Sony, we can expect its latest console in the holiday season this year. It's not far away, so if your interest in the PS5 is even remotely piqued (which it absolutely should), you should start saving up money for it. We already know that there might be a parts shortage, so stocks are going to be pretty scarce indeed. Next-generation gaming should be your top priority.

There's always a chance that you have completely missed this generation. It's possible that you weren't interested in the PS4 at all (which would again be a mistake). You might be a long-time Xbox fan who is now interested in Sony's console line. We can understand that; many of us here were Xbox devotees before the PlayStation 4 came along. It is possible to be wondering if you should get a PS4 or wait for the PS5.

First, ask yourself if you own or have access to a current-gen console. If your answer is "no", you should definitely buy a PlayStation 4. You owe it yourself to experience current-generation gaming if you haven’t already. You can get a PlayStation 4 console for a very affordable price. If you want to enjoy the best of the console's capabilities, you don't need to purchase a PS4 Pro. Just buying a slim base model PS4 will get you some of the best games around.

This won't matter for most people. The combined sales of the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 have surpassed 200 million units. Although it's unlikely there are many gamers who haven't bought a new-generation console, the PlayStation 4 may still be appealing to them even if they've used a different system. There are many differences between the three consoles, so it's not worth waiting to get a PS5 if you have been a Switch or Xbox gamer.

You don't need to wait for the PlayStation 5, if you have spent most of your gaming time on an Xbox One, you should immediately buy a PS4. It's unlikely that you've ever played gems such as God of War, Bloodborne and Uncharted 4 : A Thief’s End. You can also use the Nintendo Switch to play the PS4 with your Switch. Many multiplayer games on both platforms are cross-playable, which is a great thing.

If you are a Switch player, you have missed out on some of the best features the PlayStation 4 has to provide: 1080p gaming at base level, and many 4K titles on the Pro. The Switch is a great machine but won't be able to run most games with the same graphical quality as the PlayStation 4 Pro, especially for games such as The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt or DOOM. These games require the best hardware available.

Even if your base PlayStation 4 is already in use, the PlayStation 5 should be purchased immediately to get the full experience. The PlayStation 4 Pro is the leap that you have to take. While it won't be anywhere near as powerful as the upcoming PS5, the PlayStation 4 Pro offers the chance to play some of the PS4's most beloved classics in eye-watering 4K resolution and buttery-smooth 60FPS speed. If you already own a PS4, there's no reason to not buy a PS4 Pro.

It's possible to wait until the PlayStation 5 if you have no interest in the PS4 Pro. However, we strongly advise against this. If you are unable to play any of the PlayStation 4 exclusives, the PlayStation 5 is a far better option than the PS4 Pro.

It is possible that you are a PC gamer. If this is the case, you shouldn't hesitate to get the PlayStation 5. You'll probably have missed the PS4 exclusives we've already mentioned, and you won’t have the PlayStation Plus joy of receiving two or more games each month. You should make it a priority to get a PS4 as soon as possible. Ask a friend who has one to let you know if they'd be willing to go along and have a game with you. You won't regret it.

Answering the question at the beginning, the answer is no. You shouldn't wait until PlayStation 5 to get a PlayStation 4. Although the PS5 will be a beast of a console, it is still a ways off. If you are looking for great gaming experiences, get one today.
