The Astrology of the 2020 Elections: Tulsi Gabbard

Part 7 of a really long series

Introduction

In 2016, I saw that the astrological community was very divided on who was going to win the presidential elections, but I noticed that these astrologers had one thing in common: their predictions were driven more by bias than astrology. Hilary Clinton supporters were predicting her win, while Trump supporters predicted his win. Not once did I see a Democrat predict Trump's victory nor did a Republican predict Clinton's. For someone actually wanting to study astrology, it was very disappointing.

This election, I want to see predictions based not on bias or personal opinion, but on actual astrology. This election, I'm going to give my own take on 2019's election. It's not that I don't have any biases—I obviously do—but when it comes down to it, I'm not really for any politician, so my predictions are not based on who I want to win (there are definitely some candidates I hate less than others), but who I think is going to win. As I'm writing this, I'm still not sure—it might even be Trump (I hope not)! It depends on the birth charts, transits, progressions and return charts of everybody running. My source for presidential candidates is ballotpedia.org, and while I must confess there are a few names I haven't heard of before, I included them in an effort to be fair.

I was originally going to write one big long article about the election, but because the article got to be too long, WAY TOO LONG, I decided to separate it into parts. I'm going to analyze the charts of each candidate in alphabetical order by last name. If there's someone I'm missing, please feel free to let me know.

Click the underlined links to view parts one, two, three, four, and five, where I analyze the charts of Michael Bennet, Joe Biden, Cory Booker, Steve Bullock, Pete Buttigieg and Julian Castro (who has since, along with Cory Booker, dropped out of the race).

The Natal Chart of Tulsi Gabbard

Tulsi Gabbard is an American politician, serving as U.S representative for Hawaii's 2nd congressional district, and veteran of the U.S army. She is both America's first Hindu member of congress, and the first voting Samoan-American member of congress. To read more about her plans for presidency, click here.

Disclaimer: Tulsi Gabbard has no known time of birth on record, making it hard to conduct an in depth and accurate astrological analysis. We do not for instance, know her Rising Sign, her Midheaven or what houses her planets are placed. We can work with what we do have, but our analysis is limited.

With an Aries stellium comprised of the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars, we know that Tulsi Gabbard is a born warrior. These placements show that she is brave, strong and resilient. It comes as no surprise to learn that she is a literal veteran of war, serving as a major in the Hawaiian Army National Guard, during the Iraq War. Before her political career, she was a self-employed martial arts instructor.

While the Sun conjunct Mars shows us that she is a fighter, who stands up for what she believes, the Sun is also conjunct Venus, showing a strong belief in peace and harmony. Diplomacy, and an end to pointless and wasteful wars are central to her campaign, preferring diplomatic strategies. With all three planets trine Neptune in Sagittarius, she is likely a very spiritual person guided by her conscience and compassion for others, as well as her inner sense of values.

Her Aries placements also trine her Moon and North Node in Leo, another fire sign. Once again, this shows us that she is a courageous person who feels most comfortable in positions of leadership. The Moon is also sextile Jupiter and Saturn (the great conjunction of 1981) in Libra, indicating that she is likely an emotionally balanced person. She may have been the center of attention growing up.

Mercury in Aries opposite Jupiter and Saturn in Libra, however, she may potentially struggle with communication problems. With Mercury opposite Jupiter, she may be too blunt one minute, over-exaggerating things, and speaking what she feels too soon before getting her facts straight. With Mercury opposite Saturn, however, her speech may be more limited. She may hold back the truth at times, or hold back from expressing herself, for fear of being misunderstood, or not having all her facts right. With both these planets in Libra, she may struggle with balance in communication. At times, she may hold herself back for fear of what other people may think of her, while other times being too bold. The Sun conjunct both Venus and Mars should help with this, integrating her bold, warrior nature with her love of peace and diplomacy.

Her Sun exactly opposite Pluto at 22 degrees Libra, and Venus and Mars opposite Pluto as well, posits another set of problems, however. She might suffer from bouts paranoia, feeling as if it is her against the world. She is hawkish, always on the lookout for potential threat and competition. This may benefit her politically; but with Venus here, it could present challenges in her personal relationships. She may suffer from obsessiveness, possessiveness or self-sabotage. On a more positive note, however, she is strong, bold, and unafraid of getting her hands dirty. She is not afraid of challenge or confrontation nor is she afraid of truth. In fact, she is a skilled investigator, who digs deep to find it, having no tolerance for bullshit. These are all qualities that can definitely be beneficial for a president to have.

Tulsi Gabbard's Transits

Unfortunately, the primary transits do not look good for Tulsi Gabbard. With Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn making a t-square to her natal Sun, Venus, Mars in Aries as well as her natal Pluto in Libra, she is currently facing a lot of opposition. The political establishment and media are not on her side. The square from Saturn shows us people are actively preventing her from having any power. Meanwhile, the square from Pluto indicates secrets from her past being brought up to destroy her - or just flat out lies and distortions.

Maybe this is a bias on my part but I notice, for example, that the establishment democrats are making her out to be right-wing and I don't see anything right-wing about her current politics aside from a willingness, likely due to her harmonious-loving Sun-Venus conjunction (trine Neptune) and Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in Libra, to collaborate and compromise with people on both sides.. as well as a distrust and unmasking (possibly due to the Sun-Pluto opposition) of perceived warmongering establishment democrats like Hilary Clinton. Does this actually mean she's right wing? No.

In addition to t-square from Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, the Sun in Aquarius opposing her Leo Moon shows potential tension and difficulty. I don't see any real saving grace here except for Mars in Sagittarius' trine to her Aries stellium. With all these negative transits, I don't think she stands much of a chance in winning this year's primary, but with Mars trine her fiery Aries planets and maybe even her Leo Moon (depending on the time) I think she's going to keep her head up and come out of this even stronger.

The transits for the general election do not look much better. The Saturn-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn making a t-square to her natal Aries planets as well as her natal Pluto in Libra are now joined by Jupiter in Capricorn. With Jupiter in the mix, the opposition, suppression, and manipulation by the media and the mainstream democratic establishment become even more magnified than before, because Jupiter exaggerates and expands whatever it touches. Mercury Retrograde in Libra also touches her natal Pluto and opposes her natal Aries planets. The personality traits caused by her natal Sun/Venus/Mars-Pluto opposition such as her paranoia, obsession, defensiveness and need to compete are made even worse by this configuration. She may suffer from communication problems at this time and may be prone to being misunderstood. It's possible that everything she says is used against her, and the media could manipulate her into saying things she doesn't mean or manipulate the public into thinking she said things she didn't.

Once again, Mars is the saving grace. Mars is in Aries conjunct her natal Mars. Venus in Libra conjunct her natal Jupiter-Saturn conjunction may also be helpful. Even if she does win the primary, or decide to run as third party (which right now she swears she won't), however, the negative transits make me doubt she'll beat Trump, but her Mars Return gives her an extra boost of courageous and confidence that will make her come out of this stronger. Despite the challenges, she will likely win new supporters through her strength and tenacity, and raise topics into the public consciousness that will benefit her later.

Tulsi Gabbard's Progressions

It's hard to analyze progressed charts without a birth time but I will try my best.

Her Progressed Sun has just entered a new sign, which is a pretty big deal. With Tulsi’s Progressed Sun entering the sign of Gemini, she is starting a new cycle in which communication, learning, media and mental or intellectual activity all play a big role. Her life is beginning to center itself around the spreading and acquiring of new information. This could involve writing or reading or simply talking and socializing with other people from all walks of life. She is entering a busy phase of life, filled with multi-tasking, multiple projects at once, and likely lots of new people.

There may a certain duality present in Tulsi’s life at the moment, especially with her progressed Mercury and Venus in Gemini as well. As her Progressed Sun moves out of Taurus, she is learning how to be flexible and see other people’s points of view, even learning how to understand and get along with people whose perspectives are dows not necessarily agree with. She’s learning the meaning of nuance and how to see all sides of a situation.

With Progressed Sun opposite Uranus, she may be undergoing a phase in life where she identifies, or is perceived by others, as something of a rebel. Unique and eccentric, she marches to the beat of her own drum.

The Progressed Moon is also entering a new sign but the sign of Capricorn which is very different from Gemini. She’s entering a phase in life where she is more organized and in control than before, or at least feels most comfortable when she has these things.

It’s interesting because while her Progressed Sun is exactly trine Jupiter in Libra, her progressed Moon is exactly square it. She might experience good luck in life, at this time. She is confident and popular and things come easily to her. But there may be a lack of emotional fulfillment or a feeling of discomfort regardless of what material benefits she receives.

Meanwhile, Mars conjunct Chiron in Taurus shows pains, wounds. This is a difficult time but a time of healing.

The Gemini-Capricorn mix is fitting for a political career.

Tulsi Gabbard’s Inaugurations Day transits show much of the same except the Moon is better aspected. It is no longer square Jupiter and Saturn, but instead moving towards a trine with Mars and Chiron, showing strength and emotional resilience as opposed to discomfort.

Tulsi Gabbard's Return Charts

Once again, we have to ignore the houses and angles here because there’s no birth time. Still the aspects between planets in her Solar Return chart will tell us something about the year ahead.

The Sun at 22 degrees Aries forming a t-square to Saturn and Pluto and the South Node in Capricorn and the North Node and Moon in Cancer shows us that this was a year of challenge and setback for her. The Saturn and Pluto conjunction square her Sun indicates much of the suppression and slander I’ve already mentioned. The Moon, however, shows a personal, more emotional component, while the Nodes tell us that there is something karmic, even destined about her political campaign and the challenges she’s facing as a result. With Moon opposite Saturn and Pluto, there has likely to been depression, disappointment and/or frustration in Tulsi’s life over the past year. But whenever the Moon is square Sun in a Solar Return chart, it tells us that it’s going to be a climactic year full of major changes (such as a marriage or a birth or a political campaign like this) and with the North Node conjunct the Moon, we see that this is also a year of tremendous growth for Tulsi Gabbard. Despite the challenges, there is evolution to come out of this, learning and spiritual growth. She is coming into her purpose.

Jupiter in Sagittarius trine her Sun shows good luck and might even benefit her political campaign somehow.

Meanwhile, Venus conjunct Neptune and Mercury in Pisces is trine the Moon and North Node. This puts the focus on romance, and qualities like compassion, spirituality and sensitivity. There is a certain amount of idealism present in Tulsi Gabbards political campaign and life at this time, and a certain degree of spiritual value she stands for.

This is next year’s Solar Return chart. Her birthday comes about two months after the primaries and gives us a good sense at how she will react or feel about their results. How will the results affect her life?

Saturn has moved out of Capricorn and is no longer squaring her Sun, which is good, takes some pressure off, but with Pluto and Jupiter still square the Sun, challenges still remain.

The Moon in Sagittarius is square Neptune, showing disillusionment arising from high ideals. One would expect this from a campaign loss.

However, the Moon is trine her Sun and potentially her natal Moon too. This is a very good aspect and shows happiness as well as comfortability.

Mercury at the first degree of Aries shows a year full of fearless, brash, straightforward and honest communication. Mercury sextile Saturn proves communication will be logical, factual and straight to the point, bare bones. With Mercury sextile Venus in Gemini, communication is pleasant and will likely work out in her favor. Venus trine Mars and Saturn are good for her romantic life as well as her relationships in general. Big relationship energy in 2020, relationships that are both sexy and stable.

Mars conjunct Saturn in Aquarius does show political activity. Mars conjunct Saturn squares Uranus shows rebellion or even revolution happening in her life.

Conclusion

Due to the ongoing Saturn-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn squaring her Aries stellium, this election season has not been so good for Tulsi Gabbard, and it does not look she’ll see a turnaround before the primary. It is highly doubtful that she will win. However, she is very strong and it looks like she’ll come out of this even stronger somehow, anyway. She has gained a lot of new supporters, as well as alerted people to some important issues involving the military industrial complex and the corruptness of the neoliberal establishment. I do think a cabinet position is possible or some other important new career move involving communications.
