The world was startled by the death of Her Highness Queen Elizabeth II on September 8, however, the demise of the monarch called for celebration in some parts of the world!

From the Industrial Age to the Internet Age, from world wars to the infamous royal family scandals, the queen mother has survived them all.

She came into power during the era where women would think twice before gaining public attention, inviting criticism from the traditionalists.

Despite all the rumours and scandals that made it to the headlines during her rule, she nonetheless went on to become one of the most powerful women in 21st century.

Her vision, enigma, and openness to the modern aspects helped her gain praise, both in England and the rest of the world!

The queen’s demise: An occasion of mourning and celebration

The queen’s death shook her subjects.

The otherwise lively and bustling city of London saw many of its banks and other businesses being shut down.

Canons fired 96 shots (the queen’s age at the time of her death) by the British army, where a gloomy London bridge stood the solemn witness.

In her birth country, events were being cancelled, strikes being called off, and celebration of any kind being recalled, while the nation is looking forward to being addressed by new monarch, the late Queen’s beloved son.

Many celebrities and other well wishers have taken to the internet to offer their condolences.

The Queen may leave behind the world that she once reigned (officially and unofficially), but will forever have her own throne in people’s hearts and media.

But like they say, there’s two sides to the same coin.

That is, in the internet age that the queen left behind, every incident is subject to two types of opinions.

On one hand, you have the royal family as well as concerned masses mourning the queen’s demise, on the other, you have celebrations that claim justice comes from it.

The people who celebrate have mostly two things in common: They’re netizens, and they come from the commonwealth nations.

Their claim is that the monarch’s death marks an end to the memories of notorious reign of colonial England.

The atrocities that were committed by her nation, was in her name, they claim.

For example, the netizens in India demanded back the “Kohinoor” diamond, which was taken from the country to adorn the royal crown.

Some others expressed their wish for princess Diana to be alive to witness the royal funeral, and to be crowned as the next queen.

The internet was suddenly crowded with hilarious posts mocking the royal demise, as if they got their long awaited independence from colonialism.

On top of that, any attempts from the government and people to observe and mourn the death through social media, were highly criticized by the former group of netizens.

Is the Queen to blame after all?

No, absolutely not!

The so-called patriotic internet users from the commonwealth haven’t probably experienced any misfortunes of the colonial rule, as did their grandparents and great grandparents.

In addition, they never had to get off their couches to fight in battles against the oppressors.

They are simply spitting out the frustration that lingered from the past; something that was injected into their psyche by politicians, media that romanticizes the past, and history textbooks from school.

The queen herself did not begin any wars during her reign, in contrast to her male counterparts.

Neither had she passed laws to subjugate people from colonized countries, nor had any disputes on their territory and resources.

I believe that she shouldn’t be blamed even in her grave, for the misdeeds her predecessors never apologized for!

If you ask me, she would always be remembered for her successful reign, her charisma, and elegance.

In addition, she has won millions of hearts for every hater devilishly feasting on her demise!

The Queen had harnessed the inherent power that comes naturally from being female: she was powerful and commanding, yet an endearing and warm queen mother.

Queen Elizabeth II have ensured her permanence in history’s pages, as one of the most dignified Queens there has ever been. There is not going to be another Queen Elizabeth…

Sadly, history has once again it isn’t ready yet for another powerful female ruler, even though the modern times boast of women having better representation than ever.

The mighty matriarchs of the yesteryears were either demonized or silenced in historical recounts, and unfortunately, the late queen too will follow suit.

However, her legacy impudently refuses to take the backseat in the new era.

Rest In Peace, Queen Elizabeth II, the most powerful, dignified, efficient, elegant and beloved queen mother!
