Writing a Solid Foodie Review

There is an Art to It

Reviews of Any and All Foods

I am a Foodie at heart, so reviewing eateries is an extreme passion of mine. I love doing an honest and complete review to accomplish one of two things; leading customers to great places or steer them from the ones that may be potential disasters. However, there is a fine line between being informative and being overly informational. The last thing you want to do in any type of review is seem bossy or directive in a negative manner.

People tend to be extremely critical in areas that do not need such critique. This is where an honest review can go south. Keeping reviews; especially food and restaurant reviews, lighthearted, open minded, and jovial are always good ways to have them accepted on a positive note. Here is how I go about performing a rock-solid review on a restaurant, food ruck, or even a generalized store.

Enjoy & Inform

Make it Memorable

1. Prepare Your Readers: Explain to them why you went where you went, how many people were in your party, what day & time did you go, and one of the most important points; how were you greeted. Believe it or not, people take just as much stock into how a person was greeted versus how the food was. Many people, I included, want both of course. However, we yearn for an inviting and exciting experience more than anything else.

2. Be Thorough but Honest: This is where you get to deliver your true review. Explain what the inside of the place looked like, how it smelled, what you ordered – in detail, and how it arrived. Be prepared to be honest and detailed in your review. If you are stating that you loved it, then explain why. And vice versa, if you did not like it all, why is that? Be very descriptive and choose your adjectives well. You do not want to bog your review down with fluff, but you always want to be honest. If the food was great, but a little greasy for your taste; say just that. It is okay to be honest when you realize everyone has a different palette.

3. Put a Bow on It: Make sure the conclusion is detailed, but not boring. Make sure to confirm or deny a plan for a return visit, and the reason to why or why not. It is okay to decide a place is not for you, but make sure you realize that everyone does not have the same taste. Someone else may very well love one type of restaurant over another. Therefore, it is critical to be as clear and honest as you can in your review. Always be sure to understand that your favorite may not be the favorite of another.

Review Everything from Beginning to End

Personally, I do not work in the restaurant business directly. But I am a food taster and reviewer on a regular basis. It does not pay the bills; it just simply fills my belly and gives ideas to others. There is a love to it though, a love of food and fellowship mixed. Sometimes this is all a person needs to feel like they have accomplished something truly monumental.

You see, if I can go into a restaurant and sample some food, review it, and recommend others go as well; that keeps another business open. But even more than that, it keeps food on someone else’s table as well. Families that may not have had a well-rounded meal, now will. It may not seem like much to all, but to me it seems life changing.

Until Next Time.
