Growing up, my father loved spicy foods. Whenever we sat down at the dinner table, he was always sure to grab the Texas Pete off the refrigerator door.

Between covering his scrambled eggs with black pepper, hot sauce, and his love for peppers, I've wondered when he would ever reach the glass ceiling of hotness.

As I advanced my cooking career, I've noticed why my father had such love for the hot pepper family. No matter the color, I've come to appreciate the small spicy chili pepper.

Jalapenos are part of the genus family, Capsicum, in relation to paprika, cayenne peppers, and bell peppers.

The small perennial night-shade plant originated from Mexico. It can grow upwards of 24 inches!

Beyond traditional salsas, jalapenos bring so many positive benefits to your life.

In history, Aztecs and Mayans consumed chiles for depression, remedy colds and flu symptoms, while strengthening the body heat from the seeds.
