Redneck Style Ready
My Game Day Snacks
Game Day food? Phase one Games (mid-morning ones): Wings, of course! Celery with Bleu cheese or Ranch. Fries. It's really that simple at our house. It is our tradition. No fuss and no buss. Just snacking down and watching our favorite team. Sometimes we cook them and sometimes we order out. But every time we are happy to just relax, munch on finger foods and yell at the referees.
Wash your chicken, salt and pepper, add your favorite BBQ sauce and stick it in the oven. I start early and cook it slow to begin with until I know my chicken is good and done on the inside. Then I turn up the heat and let it burn just a bit for the "look" and that extra pizzazz.
Here are the scrumptious ingredients in this dressing:
- about 1 cup of crumbled Blue Cheese
- 1/2 cup Sour Cream
- 1/4 cup Mayonnaise
- about 1/2 cup Buttermilk
- 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice
- 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 1 clove of Garlic
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground Black Pepper
- a dash of Worcestershire Sauce
Directions: Whisk everything except the bleu cheese. Crumble the cheese in after whisking. Chill in fridge until ready to serve.
Phase Two Games (afternoon/night ones): Ordered out pizza from our favorite delivery! Great to completely carb out after the exhaustion of Phase One. And let's face it, if the games haven't gone your way, pizza is a great comfort food, right?
There are a thousand recipes out there for wings. My family and I like mild and sweet. We like the drum part of the wings the best, so that is what we buy or cook. It's making my mouth salivate as we speak. We have a pile of tiny bones stacked up from our plates in no time, too.
The crunch of delicious celery is so satisfying and the tartness of the bleu cheese or ranch is just what is needed to go along with the meaty sweetness of the barbeque taste of the wings.
It's probably easier to buy a bunch from the drive thru, but here is the copycat recipe: https://thecozycook.com/mcdonalds-french-fries/#wprm-recipe-container-30377
The fries also are a great go-together blend with wings and celery. This is a completely masculine meal, but if you are reading this and you are a female that loves her football, then I'm speaking your mouth's palate table language, aren't I?
Drinks and beverages are up to our company. We prefer sweet tea, but we are one hundred percent Southern. Beer seems a likely companion and I wouldn't pass it by, either. But I seldom drink more than two bottles, so there's always leftovers in the fridge.

If I am going to have "company" then I might throw together a classic cereal mix. But now that brand of popular snack cereal has some great products that are already mixed together...bless their hearts for that!
And I might put out some potato salad to be fancy (depending on who the company is, though...lol.)
I will spend a few bucks on gameday paper plates, cups, napkins for the sheer ambience, though. And we all wear our team colors even if we don't have the jerseys.
How do you know if the food was really good and your guests are full and sated? Burps to go around. Although in other cultures, this is completely a poo-poo of etiquette, in a Southern home, it's all good. But only on game day!
For those of us who are armchair quarterbacks and prefer to stay at home rather than tailgate, this has been our tradition.
Are you thinking that we might be a redneck family? Bless your heart, you just might be right!!!
