Paneer is a popular Indian cheese that is often used in vegetarian dishes. It is a versatile ingredient that can be used in curries, stir-fries, and even as a snack. Making paneer at home is a simple and easy process that can be done in just a few steps. In this note, we will explain how to make a paneer dish in the simplest terms possible.

Ingredients:

1 liter of whole milk

2-3 tablespoons of lemon juice or white vinegar

Salt (to taste)

Oil (for frying)

Optional spices (such as cumin, coriander, turmeric, etc.)

Step 1: Heat the milk

Pour the milk into a large pot and place it on medium heat. Stir the milk occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pot. Bring the milk to a boil.

Step 2: Add the lemon juice or vinegar

Once the milk has come to a boil, add 2-3 tablespoons of lemon juice or white vinegar to it. Stir the milk gently for a few seconds until the lemon juice or vinegar has fully mixed with the milk. You will notice the milk start to curdle.

Step 3: Strain the paneer

Once the milk has fully curdled, turn off the heat and let it cool for a few minutes. Place a muslin cloth or cheesecloth over a strainer and place the strainer over a large bowl. Pour the curdled milk into the strainer and let it sit for a few minutes to drain the whey.

Step 4: Press the paneer

Once the whey has drained, tie up the muslin cloth or cheesecloth into a bundle and press it gently to remove any excess whey. Hang the bundle for a few hours or place it under a heavy object to press it further. This will help to give the paneer a firmer texture.

Step 5: Cut the paneer

Once the paneer has been pressed and has firmed up, remove it from the muslin cloth or cheesecloth and cut it into cubes or rectangles.

Step 6: Fry the paneer

Heat some oil in a pan and add the paneer cubes to it. Fry the paneer cubes on medium heat until they turn golden brown. This will give the paneer a crispy texture.

Step 7: Add spices (optional)

Once the paneer cubes are fried, you can add any spices of your choice to the pan. This can include cumin, coriander, turmeric, or any other spices that you like. Fry the spices for a few seconds until they become fragrant.

Step 8: Add salt (to taste)

Finally, add some salt to the paneer dish to taste. You can also add some chopped onions or tomatoes if you like. Fry the paneer for a few more minutes until it is coated in the spices and fully cooked.

Step 9: Serve

Your paneer dish is now ready to serve! You can enjoy it as a side dish or as a main course with rice or bread.

In conclusion, making a paneer dish is a simple and easy process that can be done with just a few ingredients. By following these steps, you can make a delicious paneer dish that is sure to impress your friends and family. Remember to experiment with different spices and ingredients to find the perfect flavor for your paneer dish.
