Doing Flavor All Wrong

A List of (Controversial) Food Opinions

We all have our own tastes. Some (psychos) think that kale is great, others (of the respectable sort) value chocolate as the ultimate dessert flavor. There are (basic) people who become vegans and also those (who enjoy life) that can enjoy the occasional fast-food burger. All of these opinions are valued, but this article is to tell the world that what's actually correct, or at least start with five major points.

1. Vanilla is not good by itself. Not to knock down vanilla as a flavor, but it's the most basic of desserts. It's what to use as 'plain' ice cream, meant to be loaded with dessert. Vanilla cake, do you mean vessel for frosting, fruit and perhaps candies? Dash some vanilla in your french-toast and top that with some fruits and syrup, that's how you use vanilla. It's a sweetener, a good starting base and simply not to be eaten alone.

2. Soda flavoring is all wrong. Not to even get into the battle of orange flavored anything outside of chocolate is just too much, but the wrong fruits are being picked. Cherry is the only acceptable cola flavor that's been widely accepted. How come grape isn't the easiest thing to find anyhow? With some of these new flavors popping up there's some concern to be addressed. Cinnamon cola? Cranberry? Is this grandma's house? The world is in need of mango, mixed-berry and please where is the coconut cola?

3. More chicken. The world went wrong when it decided that beef burgers was the main draw. It's not even the best answer for environmental impact. Slowly, burgers are getting substitution meat and more options, but whoever decided turkey burgers were the next best substitute needs to rethink their life. Chicken burgers provide the same function, but with more options. Crispy chicken, ground chicken, grilled chicken, the options are all there and ready for the taking. Crispy breaded beef burgers just aren't around. There's simply no comparison.

4. Eggs are not good. Quite frankly, this makes going out to breakfast pretty hard. A valid breakfast is biscuits and gravy, chocolate chip pancakes or a bacon sandwich. Going out to breakfast can be a nightmare if you don't like to eat rubber. Everything comes with a side of eggs. Can I get substitute for has browns? Those omelettes look delicious, let's put them in crepe form instead. Breakfast needs a new base food, because eggs just aren't working.

5. I saved the least enraging for last, so readers can cool down from the previous arguments. Ugly food is fine. It's the taste and nutrition that matters after all. That peach is going to get cut up and baked into cobbler anyhow, the lumps aren't going to be a bother for long. Ugly food options are out there bringing down our food waste, but this shouldn't just be a program, it should be the norm. (Shout out to imperfectfoods.com and misfitsmarket.com for being part of this movement). I remember talking to an aspiring pastry chef who hated cupcakes and cupcake stores (this was back when the stores were popping up everywhere). If the cupcakes aren't beautiful clones of each other, they got thrown out. She vowed never to handle in cupcakes. We live in a world where food waste happens before it's even reached consumers. Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I'm not going to say no to a fresh apple or my morning bagel simply because it's misshapen.

Whatever your opinion might be, the message is to not let things go to waste. Try new things with a friend if you're not sure you'll like it, buy brands you can trust, eat your leftovers and never throw out food simply for being ugly.
