Coca-Cola Move: So Good I Second Guessed Myself

This new creation flavor, made in collaboration with the fantastic Rosalía, is the perfect opponent to Starlight.

Coca-Cola Move (Zero Sugar), a limited edition drink

The latest star of the Coca-Cola Creations team has just arrived! Named "Move", this drink boasts itself as being Transformation flavored, as a testament to the inspiration and collaborator, Grammy award-winning artist Rosalía.

Rosalía is an artists well known by now for defying genres, mixing and bending styles to create her perfect vision for her music and herself. Even many of her songs in the last album MOTOMAMI talked about the changes (the transformations) she and others around her are undergoing. In fact, Rosalía created a song specifically for this collab with Coke, called "LLYLM" that further expands on the theme of transformation and continuous evolution. After all, you can't transform by just standing still.

Now, I got the chance to try Move. I popped the whole pack into the fridge and let them chill for about two hours before tasting them, and I honestly had no sense of anticipation for them. I've tried the ones before, Starlight being my utmost favorite (if any Coke marketing execs, or PR execs, or R&D anybody is reading this, PLEASE bring it back) and Dreamworld being a nice, fruity follow up- but not enough to stand up to my beloved Space Coke. I just didn't expect anything to really hit my senses like Starlight did, unfortunately, but I still wanted to try it because I like the couple of songs I've heard from Rosalía.

Reader . . . when I tell you that coconut popped me in the mouth but good.

It burst across my tongue like fireworks. Grabbed my attention as if a hands had hooked around my jaw and shook it to focus me. Bold. Uncompromising. Delicious coconut flavor was all that I could think about for a good fifteen seconds. I'd thought I lost my mind for a little bit there. It's not as if I'm a stranger to tropical and unique soda flavors! My pre-teen days I was near gluttonous for some delicious Chubby soda- Banana, Pineapple, Strawberry, Cotton Candy, Kola Champagne . . . damn I miss those actually (the old formula, not this new Splenda one). But I've just- never? Had coconut flavored soda? It's one of those flavors that doesn't even cross your mind as a possible flavor, not because it isn't delicious, but because it's more associated with healthier drinks. Coconut milk, coconut water . . . super hydrating things. Not sugary soda. The folks at Coke thought differently, it seems.

I tried to find something else besides the coconut- not that I wasn't grateful, you know, I just figured there might be something else there. After about half the can, I wondered if I wasn't imagining the slight tinge of bubblegum. Not really a strong bubblegum flavor, but something almost like the breath of it, the first tentative touch of a piece of gum to your mouth, the sweet chalkiness of a freshly unwrapped original flavor Bubblelicious before you finally bit down into it. In the next can I tried a day after, that breath of bubblegum chalk was instead the whiff of marshmallow. How the hell did they even do that? It's like the taste makes subtle changes back and forth (hey they really put transformation flavor to the test, right?) and you can't pin it down.

All in all? I love it. Finally, a worthy opponent to Coca-Cola Starlight- the vast wild possibilities of space and the immeasurable potential of transformation . . . two sides of the same coin, it almost seems like.

Coca-Cola Move can be found in your local grocery stores, or online at Coke's website! I think the last time I did a review for the Creation line I wrote about where I could imagine myself drinking this . . . so where can I see myself holding a cute little can, half pink and half white? Maybe at a rest stop, phone in the other hand while I google kitschy tourist traps along the meandering path to somewhere particular I don't quite know yet. Watching the sun dip towards the waters of Apollo Beach (I would say Anna Maria, but they've gotten so tourist choked-), or walking on a beach boardwalk, eyeing the food stalls? Yeah.

If you've tried this flavor already, tell me what you thought it tasted like! And if you enjoyed this article, please give it a like and share- maybe even subscribe!
