A common vegetable used among many years is the potato. This earth grown food is useful for any meal. Whether it's breakfast , lunch , dinner , or even a snack , the possibilities are endless. Keep reading below for five ways to transform your potatoes.

Mashed

First up the all classic favorite of mashed potatoes. Start with washing and peeling 3-5 potatoes or how ever many you need. Once peeled chop into medium sized chunks. Keep in mind the bigger the chunks the longer the cook time required. Next fill a medium/large pot of water. Add potatoes and bring to a boil. Let boil for 15 minutes if small chunks or 20 -25 minutes for larger chunks. When done pierce with a fork or knife. If it shows little to no resistance going through and slides back off then they are done.

Strain the potatoes and put back into the pot. Add some butter or milk then mash with a masher until smooth. I love to add garlic powder and parsley and mix it up to give a herb and garlic affect. Next is to serve and enjoy!

Wedges/Fries

Despite many fast food chains having delicious greasy and salty fries, Sometimes all we want is homemade ones. To start wash 2 -3 potatoes. It is optional to peel the skin off or leave it one. Using a fry cutter if you have one , cut into fries or wedges.

For a conventional oven preheat to 450 degrees F. While oven is pre heating add fries into a large bowl. Add a tablespoon of ex virgin olive oil and spices. Mix together so fries are easily coated. I use : Paprika, garlic powder, garlic salt , basil , parsley , pepper and a dash of chilli powder.

Put tin foil or parchment paper onto a baking sheet and spread fries out in an even layer. Place in oven for roughly 15- 20 minutes or until desired crispiness is made. Flip halfway through. Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes. Add your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy! Personally growing up I just used mustard , ketchup and sometimes both , but as I've gotten older i've been really loving using plum/sweet and sour sauce.

Pan Fried

A nice breakfast side dish is a pan fried hash brown style of potatoes. Wash 1-2 of a potatoes of your choosing. I myself use white potatoes. Once washed dice into medium sized cubes or smaller if preferred.

Heat a frying pan on medium with olive oil or butter. Once the pan starts to heat up at the diced potatoes to the pan with seasoning of your choice. Usually I add a mixure of : Pepper , garlic salt , paprika , and parsley. Once the cubes start to gloden on one side stir the pan. Continue stirring until cubes are evenly cooked with a crisp.

Serve with eggs , bacon , toast and enjoy!!

Chips

Yes chips! Homemade chips are delicious and fun to make. Making chips is one of the things I learned to make while on a mission to save money.

Using either a knife or a Mandolin finely slice 1-2 whole potatoes into thin circles/ovals. Place in a bowl and add: Olive oil, parsley , garlic , onion powder , paprika and pepper. Spices vary on preference.

In a single layer place chips on a grate in the air fryer . Bake for 15- 17 minutes until crisp. Repeat until you have a desired amount of chips. Place in a bowl and enjoy while watching your favourite show or movie!
