What Are Montessori Schools?
Your kids are a huge investment. You take care of them for at least 18 years and hope later on down the road they will be able to take care of you as well. You spend all this time and money trying to make their lives the best they can be. And there are so many choices to make at every crossroad. If you’re religious do you baptize them? In today’s culture, you may even choose to let them choose their own gender. And when it comes to education, there’s even more options. Do you send them preschool and kindergarten? Do you homeschool? There are many reasons why people homeschoool their children, after all. If they go to school, will it be public or private? It’s hard to decide what type of education program to enroll your children in. But there is an option you might not be familiar with. It’s called the Montessori Method, and it’s taught at Montessori schools.
Lindsay ParksPublished 5 years ago in EducationDisabled at University
When I was first diagnosed with ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia, I did not think that going to university would ever be achievable for me. I was bed bound. I spent most of my life asleep. I couldn't get up to go to the toilet, let alone go into school. I was devastated because I had always known that I wanted to study theatre later in my life, and I just couldn't ever see myself being able to.
A Year in the Life of a Teacher
I’ve had many of you who are reading this. You should be congratulating US. Who is "US"? We are the teachers who taught you to read. We are the very brave souls who furthered our education so that you could further yours. We endured years of college and amassed a collection of degrees just so that you can go further in your life.
Maurice BernierPublished 5 years ago in EducationMy Seven Deadly Sins
Picture this, a college student with nothing to lose. She does not procrastinate. She is a lighthearted soul that can do no wrong. The definition of who we are expected to become. Who I wish I was. But I sit here writing this essay, a great example of one of the seven deadly sins: Sloth. I knew this essay was due on that Friday. Yet here I am, the day it is due, typing this out as if nothing is wrong. Everything is wrong. It is a societal norm of a college student to procrastinate. Statements such as, “If the due date is not tomorrow, today is not the do date,” or my personal favorite, “Cs get degrees,” as if that is any better than doing your work the first time.
chrystal wrayPublished 5 years ago in EducationWhat's the Difference Between a College and a University?
The difference between a college and a university is pretty simple: One is a single school with a single purpose (kind of), and the other is a collection of linked schools. That said, the real differences in usage and understanding are actually a bit more complex. In other countries, "college" usually means "high school," and "university" is what follows. In the United States, however, "college" more generally refers to what follows high school, and "university" refers to schools that incorporate a college or colleges with graduate studies. We'll get to all these little differences in more detail though.
Nicola P. YoungPublished 5 years ago in EducationBringing Higher Education to the Real World
A lot of reputable schools are notorious for being inaccessible. In some cases, it seems that the schools prefer to have this reputation. If they want to remain relevant, however, they'll have to change. Below are three ways that higher education can be made more accessible.

1. Take your bike. I always knew I would take my bike to uni, mainly because my department was miles away from my flat, but also because it's a super easy way to get around. Most campuses are pretty big, so cycling between your halls and lectures means you are less likely to be late and it also saves you a lot of time in the morning. In my first year, my flatmates took the bus to their lectures and would often leave 45 minutes early to be sure of getting there on time (as the buses were very irregular and unreliable). On my bike, I could leave the house at 8:50 AM and be sitting in my lecture by 9 AM no problem. It may not feel like it, but doing this everyday really builds up your fitness. It was a good 10-minute ride to my department, and I would sometimes do it twice a day if I had large time gaps between lectures. On rainy days it isn't as fun, I'll admit, but if you need to get somewhere fast it's a good plan B to have, especially since the buses will always be crammed full on wet days.

Stephanie GladwellPublished 5 years ago in Education5 Tips on Learning a New Language
I've been studying French for seven and a half years now. I've been teaching it for a year. I have picked up some tips and tricks along the way that are surefire ways to help you learn your second (third or fourth) language quicker and better. Some are easy, others are harder, but each one has its place in the success of learning another language. First and foremost, some advice: Learning a language is hard and a process. You won't learn it in a day, you'll make mistakes. It's not like learning history or biology where you read a book and that's it; this takes time and work. Be kind to yourself as you learn your language.
How Did E-Learning Become Much More Popular Nowadays
One of the greatest inventions in human history is the printing press. With it, knowledge was no longer limited to just to the oral tradition and to handwritten manuscripts available only to monks and to the aristocracy. The internet, alongside computers, maybe a close second. There aren’t many topics for which you can’t find at least an introductory course online. Anything from math, to languages, to history, everything is online. E-learning is the future, and below you will see some reasons why.
Emily WilsonPublished 5 years ago in EducationThe Gonski Report: Allowing Teachers to Teach (Pt. 1)
The Gonski Report looks at recommendations for the future funding of education in Australian schools. Most of the recommendations have to do with the politics of funding and the need for more investment in staffing and facilities, but perhaps a more significant statement is the one paraphrased here. “The panel accepts that resources alone will not be sufficient to fully address Australia’s schooling challenges and achieve a high-quality, internationally respected schooling system. The new funding arrangements must be accompanied by continued and renewed efforts to strengthen and reform Australia’s schooling system." Our schools need $5 billion. Will they get it? As a result of the Gonski Report the Australian government is about to throw lots of money at the perceived problems in the Australian education system. If the money goes towards more teacher training or infrastructure, then the real problems may be left unaddressed.
