The Island of the Gods, or Thugs?

Eight plain-clothed masked men wearing helmets captured a foreign man violently forced him into the back of an SUV while punching his face.

As the vehicle drove off, the girlfriend managed to open the back door, and the man escaped, for now.

This alarming event happened in the popular tourist resort of Canggu, Bali.

I saw 2 video versions earlier on Facebook, which have since been taken down. Who deleted the videos?

UPDATE:

Ukrainian Man Kidnapped In Bali By Expats Who Impersonated Interpol. Story by The Bali Sun

This attack took place in broad daylight around midday on one of the busiest streets in Canggu, Bali.

There were dozens of people watching, frantically filming, yet nobody stepped in to help or stop the crime, except for the man’s petite girlfriend.

It’s not surprising that the men watching didn’t take action, as they were facing 8 giant brut men wearing black balaclavas and military helmets.

Any attempt to stop them would have likely resulted in hospitalization.

A similar attack happened to me, so I know the feeling of fear when this sort of thing happens. When gangs of whatever nationality attack you in Bali, they always come in droves, surprise you, and you have no chance.

I was attacked in May 2020 by the same type of masked gangsters who broke into my house and held me hostage for 1 hour while stealing my belongings.

They were banging on my door and windows yelling at me to let them in. I was under terrible pressure, so I finally did. Once they were inside, I was faced with 6 of these masked thugs, wearing helmets, masks, who tied my handss behind my back. It was terrifying.

Luckily, they didn’t harm me.

Physical and psychological violence has seen a sharp rise in Bali in the last years, which I have experienced on several occasions.

Viscous threats between people are doled out via text messages or email, and folks are being robbed and attacked on motorbikes or while walking almost daily.

These attacks are happening too often, yet the authorities stand by and do nothing to stop it.

Bali is in great need of a massive safety and security overhaul.

The police force must urgently step up to provide locals and foreigners with the necessary safety and security.

But why don't they do that? Is it because they don't care or have no means of finding these gangsters. Either way, it's a worrying development for Bali and it's future as a top tourism destination.

If the authorities don’t do something soon, Bali's future tourism will be highly unlikely to sustain, as more stories such as this one from bloggers like me will emerge.

It’s a sad state of affairs. I love Bali and wish nothing more for the island to recover, be prosperous, and filled with tourists and happy people spending money and having a great vacation.

By publishing this story, I run the risk of not being allowed to enter Indonesia again, or if I do, I may face arrest. I don't care as this has to be made public, and I have now done so on 4 major platforms, including here.

I chose to publish this post, although I put myself at risk of the above, in the name of freedom and justice, and to ask the Balinese authorities to finally take serious action to stop these crimes.

Final Thoughts

I hope to these crimes are stopped very soon, and all folks can live and vacation safely in Bali.

At the end of the day, Bali is one of the most beautiful, fun, and enjoyable places on the planet, and it has so, so much to offer - wonderful beaches, amazing waterfalls, stunning jungles, volcanos, awesome people, and excellent food!
