no let go

Exhausted and burdened by disappointment, I trudged down the hill, my heart heavy with sorrow and confusion. The wild fruits I had picked for our evening picnic felt like a weight I could no longer bear. It was then that I realized the activities I had observed in their homestead, across the river and up the hill from my own home, were signs of a relocation arrangement. Sally had hinted that her parents were discussing a move to their old town house, but she had no idea when it would happen. All I knew was that I needed to find her, and I would have to come up with a plan.

Fortunately, I had just graduated from university with honors and fate seemed to intervene when I arrived home and discovered that my mother wanted me to take computer and driving courses offered in town. It was an unexpected opportunity. I reached out to a friend named Jerad, asking if he could accommodate me for a month or so, and he agreed. The next morning, with my bag in hand, I left for town, dropping my belongings at Jerad's place before heading to the college to enroll in the courses. My mornings would be filled with computer classes, while my evenings would be dedicated to driving lessons. In between, I was determined to find Sally.

After finishing my morning classes, I embarked on my mission, visiting each homestead and inquiring about a family that had recently relocated back to town after staying in the village for a long time. I used the pick-up line of mentioning their children's names, hoping it would jog someone's memory. However, the first, second, third, and even fourth days yielded no leads. I was starting to lose hope.

On the fifth day, as I asked about a family that had relocated, a snack vendor perked up when I mentioned if they had a son named Kalu. He had recognized the name and told me he knew where their new home was. My heart leaped with joy. Kalu was my childhood friend, and his help brought me one step closer to finding Sally. He guided me to their new residence and sent for her. The moment our eyes met, I couldn't believe I had finally found her. The feeling was indescribable.

From that day on, every afternoon after my classes, I made my way to Sally's home to see her. Our love was undeniable, even though her parents did not approve of our relationship. We kept it a secret, arranging clandestine meetings and cherishing the time we spent together. In a world without mobile phones, we relied on predetermined times and places to meet. We would walk around the estate, stealing moments of stolen affection, before I had to leave for my evening class. Our hearts were filled with excitement knowing that we could see each other every day.

One fateful day, Sally decided to walk me back toward my college, taking a route where no family member would stumble upon us. But fate had other plans. We crossed paths with Sally's father, and the disapproval on his face was palpable. He didn't utter a word, but I knew all was not well. Sally turned back to her home, and we reluctantly agreed to meet the following day at our usual time and place. However, when that day arrived, she was nowhere to be found.

Despair washed over me as I sought answers from the neighbors. It turned out that Sally had traveled to the city to stay with her elder sister. The news was unexpected and disheartening. Despite the disappointment, I knew I had to find her again. With only one week remaining until I completed my course, I held onto the hope that I would reunite with her.

Through a stroke of luck, a family friend happened to know Sally's sister in the city. Armed with this newfound knowledge, I embarked on a journey to find my way back to her once again. Determined and hopeful, I arrived in the city, eager to make things right and to ensure that our love would endure.

As days turned into nights, I searched tirelessly until, at last, I found Sally. Our reunion was filled with joy and relief. We vowed to cherish every moment and to make this love last forever. No matter the challenges that lay ahead, we were committed to facing them together, our hearts intertwined.

Time passed, and our love blossomed against all odds. We learned to navigate the hurdles, gaining strength from our unwavering commitment to one another. With each passing day, our bond deepened, and the challenges we faced only made our love stronger.

Together, we forged a path that defied societal expectations and proved that love knows no boundaries. As we stood hand in hand, gazing into the future, we knew that our love was forever, an unbreakable bond that would withstand the tests of time. And so, our journey continued, filled with hope, resilience, and the knowledge that we had found something truly extraordinary in each other.
