Lessons that 2023 Taught Me
Hey guys, I had created a list of writing prompts for the month of December. You can check that post out here. I finished this post up and realized it was worth sharing now.
Chloe Rose Violet 🌹Published about 23 hours ago in ConfessionsJust a Little Fever
It started innocently enough – just a little fever. The kind that makes you think a good night's sleep and a few over-the-counter pills will fix everything. Little did I know that this seemingly insignificant fever would unravel into a series of events that would reshape my perspective on life.

Dear Professor Cox, or Brian, May I call you Brian? It seems a little overfamiliar to call you that but then you have been in my living room on more than one occasion so I don't know. Can I?

Women are your fields. Plow into them as you like. Is this your mantra? Am I mistaken? I blame myself as much as I blame you. When you said you were sorry, I knew the meaning behind your apology. You’re sorry for leading me on. You’re sorry for fetishizing me. You’re sorry for all the empty promises. But what about me? Where did I go in losing myself to be your fantasy? A fantasy. I remember that’s what you called me. You told me I was a fantasy because I'm the darkest person you’re talking to. That doesn’t sound real or right. So I was the darkest one, not the only one. What makes color a fantasy? Am I not real to you anymore? Maybe I never was. I was warned of the sexual exploitation and exoticism bestowed upon me by society. I thought you were different. I thought you loving me would potentially eradicate stereotypes and break down the walls of bias. But no. I am one of many with the same story.

I came across an enigmatic relic that transported me to a world without cellphones and fast-food drive-through, in the everyday hallways of my twenty-first-century existence. All of a sudden, I was Joe Thompson, the unintentional time traveler, stranded in the mysterious seventeenth century.

As a young girl, I often wondered what the standard of beauty was. Growing up in a black Nigerian household, it was hard not to wonder that. And this is my tale of self-acceptance in the face of unrealistic beauty standards.
JoyincePublished 5 days ago in ConfessionsSarsaparilla Secrets: Dr Pepper
Well, howdy there, folks! Gather 'round as I spin y'all a tale about somethin' mighty peculiar – the legend of Dr Pepper. Now, if y'all reckon you know your sodas, this one's a doozy. Back in the days of the Wild West, when the sun blazed high and tumbleweeds rolled across the plains, there was talk of a drink that some folks claimed was nothin' more than watered-down barbecue sauce in a bottle. And that, my friends, was the peculiar notion 'bout Dr Pepper.
Aubrey KatePublished 6 days ago in ConfessionsAnnoying habits - if you don't stop doing that I'm going to scream!
The rhythmic tapping echoed through the room, a relentless assault on my sanity. It was a sound so innocuous yet increasingly infuriating, like a water droplet persistently hitting the same spot. I sat at my desk, trying to focus on the spreadsheet in front of me, but the tapping invaded my concentration, demanding acknowledgment.

This is not a typical essay on weight loss. I am not a typical person. Don’t expect recipes for darling cupcakes made of cauliflower and kale. I am stubborn, smart aleky, protective, immature, sincere, intelligent, intuitive, and sometimes a pain to be around. You should learn from my mistakes. Also understand I am NOT a physician and have NO medical background whatsoever. You should always check with your doctor before you change anything in your life regarding your health, like skydiving or maybe having that weird mole checked out while you’re there.

In Search of Reflection
I don't think we ever discover who we are. Identity is a never-ending book that continues to write new chapters as we experience life, and your story only ends when the pen is set down. When your story reaches a close, only you can describe everything. But there's no one word to sum up the life you lived and who you were. Others can title your story as they please and leave reviews, but you wrote every word of your story. So, on that last page, who do you think you'll be in your story? Did you become this person, or did you let this character you wanted to be, define where the story was headed?
