Music to My Ears
During my childhood, I was fortunate to be exposed to a wide range of music genres thanks to my family and friends. As a young kid, I found myself drawn to pop music, boy bands, and anything that made it onto the Top 100 charts. However, as my teenage years approached, I began developing a deep appreciation for hard rock, a passion that has stayed with me through the years. Creating a playlist of songs that have profoundly influenced my life is no easy task, but I believe I can narrow it down to seven songs, including the album that played a significant role in inspiring me to finish my first novel. So, without any particular order, let's dive into my top picks.

I'm one of those people that have thought about what kind of soundtrack they would have if there life were made into a movie. Even though, so far, the movie would be a box office bomb- I mean, it's a simple life so far if you don't count existential dread and mental upheaval as anything exciting.

Time runs through our fingers like water, and the harder we try to hold onto it, the quicker it goes. This is something everyone has to come to terms with, but music has always been there. It holds the mystic cords of memory in place, and can bring us back to a time long past with a single note. In fact, research into neuroplasticity and music suggests that music therapy could alleviate some of the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.

Introduction I have just finished watching the excellent BBC series "Guilt" with Mark Bonnar which is mostly set in Edinburgh (where I passed through yesterday and have shared a few stories about), but the last three episodes played out with instrumental sequences from some classics by Scottish bands and singers.

I was a 2003 baby. Which means I grew up on the tiny, square-shaped Apple iPods, cassette tapes that we always pulled the plastic out of, and CDs, although my Mum had more cassette tapes than CDs. Over the years, my music tastes have grown and expanded, from Imagine Dragons and Taylor Swift - to Christian music such as Hillsong, Casting Crowns and Lauren Daigle. I've also listened to older artists like Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra - and even some younger ones such as Shawn Mendes and Ed Sheeran. And some Disney music in there too.

The Power of Music: A Journey Through Emotions and Memories
When I listen to music, it’s not just for the sake of listening; it’s to bond deeply with my subconscious. Whatever your reason, music is, at its essence, human, and human is music.

I have written/compiled many song lists for publication on Vocal. I usually put a lot of research into my lists. For some I've done extensive fan polling. On average I spend about two to three weeks putting my song lists together.

Music has always been an influential force in my life. I love to sing, I love to play instruments, I love to dance, and I love the way it can be used as a storytelling medium. Musical scores and movie soundtracks fascinate me. The way songs are picked, written, and curated in such a way that conveys the emotions and trajectory of the narrative is an art form in and of itself. Making playlists for TTRPG characters, writing projects, or even just different moods and stages of life to provide inspiration and energy has become something of a hobby for me as well as an essential part of my creative process.

Introduction I am listening to the album "Collaborations Don't Work" by FFS. You see FFS and think, or well I do, "For F*cks Sake" but this is a Franz Ferdinand / Sparks collaboration and very good it is too while I think being steered by the Mael Brothers with the excellent angular sound of Franz Ferdinand I do love it.

When I was growing up, most of the music that I listened to was country music because of my location and the type of family that I grew up in, and the song for country music that became popular in 2004 was Mr. Mom by Lonestar with this cute cartoon video of a Dad who realizes that the work a mother puts into raising her children. Back when we were first starting to introduce the concept of having a stay at home father.
