The Double Standards for Women in Music
On August 7th of 2020 all social media outlets turned their heads to the release of rapper/songwriter Cardi B’s W.A.P music video, featuring fellow rapper/songwriter Megan Thee Stallion. The abbreviation “W.A.P” stands for “Wet Ass Pussy” ( Heard repeatedly throughout the song, along with other sexual innuendos and incantations ) which has earned it a claim of over the top vulgarity and obscenity. However, following the mass criticism and harsh critiques the true problem within, not just the music industry but society as a whole, reared its ugly face. Sexism, Misogyny, Insecurity, Dependency, Ego, and Masculinity v.s Femininity.
Justin CurryPublished 4 years ago in Beat Funkadelic classified as one of the 100 greatest rock bands of all time
When most people hear the name of Funkadelic they think R&B, Soul, and Funk music. I can recall as a teenager arguing with my cousins that Parliament and Funkadelic were two separate groups with different people in each one. It was years later when I realized that the two bands were comprised of many of the same people and headed by the same leader. Funkladelic had less commercial success than Parliament but this versatile music group is considered as one of the 100 greatest rock bands of all time. This is because their music falls under the category of black rock. They made the list coming in at number 86 thanks to their biggest hit single and album by the same name, One a Nation Under A Groove.

The first strings of the four-minute and 13-second track sets us up for a fairytale, but not just any fairytale. This one takes us through the trials and tribulations of Taylor Swift's public and often ridiculed love life. She reflects on how each failed relationship brought her closer to the One. Although the song has a melancholy feel to it, she takes comfort in the fact that all of the pain and suffering led her to her current love.

Lady Gaga. A name and a title at once, and two words that are probably synonymous with “meat dress”. It would be remiss of me not to acknowledge the infamous red-carpet dress and all its meaty glory when writing about Lady Gaga, so I thought it would be best to get it over with as soon as possible. Though I have no doubt that Gaga’s fashion moments could constitute an entire essay alone, it will not be this one. Strip away the stage name, 11 inch Alexander McQueen heels and the oversized diamond encrusted sunglasses, and you’re left with Stefani Germanotta, a 5’2” Italian woman and creative juggernaut who ra-ra-ra-ed her way into the public consciousness, and my heart.
