Michelle Du'BoisPublished 3 years ago in BeatThe band that made me fall in love with music again
From a young age, music has always been my drug of choice. Whenever I was having a bad day, there was nothing quite like music to make me feel better. With very different tastes ranging from heavy metal, rap, hip-hop, pop and hell, even a little bit of classical thrown in there, I have always had an album or playlist depending on my mood. And of course, going to concerts is an amazing rush in itself, being close to that artist you love and wishing they could see you in the crowd.

Who are these guys we hang out with? Are musicians just a bunch of hapless misfits who don’t want a real job? How do we, as songwriters fit into this band world? The best way to understand the people we work with and make music with is to look at each member of the band and develop a model of their behaviour. This may, of course seem stereotypical, but the following commentaries are at best, generalizations and are not meant to be conclusive, only indicative. There are many exceptions to these cases. (Now I’m really started to sound like Sigmund, yah?)

Everything I learned about recording I learned the hard way. By being forced to be a techie when I’m really an artsy-fartsy. There is definitely a school of thought out there, perpetuated no doubt by the techies, that all this high tech recording gear is way over our heads and we can’t do it without them. This is totally not true. The Beatles had technology equivalent to a $400 cassette 4-track and look what they accomplished.
Richard RevelstokePublished 3 years ago in BeatConcerts I Recommend
I miss the energy, charisma and atmosphere that shines during music concerts. Everybody comes as one as musicians give it their all. The last concert I went to was in 2019 at the O2 arena in London to see Björk. What made that concert extra special was that I went to Iceland earlier that year and bought some of her albums at. Record store in Reykjavik which included her work with the band The Sugar Cubes. A great concert makes me feel like the world has come as one during a world of darkness and decay. It’s one of the things I miss about the pre-covid world. I was skepitcal that watching them online would not have the same effects, but I was wrong in some cases. I was happy to hop on a time machine through YouTube and watch the concerts. Here are 5 that I really enjoyed.
