Cheyenne
Ty pushed his hand under rough strands of nylon. Closed his fingers tight around deep-cut braids. With his free hand, he pulled hard on the flat rope wrapped around the massive bull underneath him until he felt the blood being cut off from his grip hand. The sides of the chute slammed against his legs each time the bull moved. Every muscle in his body tensed with anticipation. He looked down at the barrel-riding world championship buckle on his waist and whispered This one's for you, honey. Turning his head, Ty gave the gateman a nod. Out in the arena, the voice of Bob Tallman blared from speakers.

Fear
So, this is how fear feels. The floorboards below my hands are cold. The copper in my throat tastes metallic. The beast's footfalls thunder above. Each one threatening to stop my heart from beating. A vision of my mother appears in front of me. Am I hallucinating? Her voice calls to me, but I know she isn't there. Not now Mama, I've got to stay alive so I can visit you in hospice tomorrow.

Under the Florida SunTop Story - September 2023
Prologue- June 23, 2014 A long time ago someone, history remembers as unknown said. "Under the Florida sun is the best place to be." I think they were right. Because there's no place, I'd rather be than sitting on the shores of Grasshopper Lake with my toes dancing in warm grains of sugar sand feeling lake water run up along my feet before circling around my ankles while my eyes look out across the ripples of water in front of me for gators breaking the surface like branches floating.
