I wrote a love song for you

Every word, every lyric

Cried like tears

That fell like rain

Falling from storm clouds

In an overcast sky

Marking the end

Of the summer of us

~

In days that felt like years

In that long ago time

Of our love

~

I held your hand, and

We danced

Alone in crowded rooms

Spinning lighter than air

Our feet moving together

To rhythms

Of songs about forever

~

We disappeared

In the glow

Surrounding us

~

Our souls haunting

Each other's hearts

Like ghosts

~

Love glided on stars

Shimmering

In the light of nothing

Ever going away

~

Our fragile hands held tight

To seasons of love

Passing

In front of our eyes

~

Afraid to let go

Afraid the leaves would fall

Afraid the sun would set

Afraid the cold would

Settle down,

We loved in fear

~

Letting go has been

The hardest part of hello

Holding on

The hardest part

Of goodbye

~

We let

Colors lose their hue

Let

Flowers forget their bloom

Brewed storms

Till the sky misplaced it's blue

~

We gave forever away

In breezes

We barely noticed

In grains of sand

That fell

One after another

To the bottom

Of an hourglass

We filled

To the top

~

Love pulled apart

Strand by strand

In truths

That whispered

Like lies

~

Forever doesn't always stay

Lifetimes don't always last

Promises don't always keep

~

Love faded

In verses of songs

We forgot to sing

~

Tomorrow disappeared

In stage light beams

We forgot to shine

~

Notes of you, fretted on an acoustic guitar

Resonate inside a mahogany body

Naked strings, strummed by clumsy fingers

Vibrate above African Blackwood

~

Memories of you sing a chorus

Inside my glass heart

Each one a stone, leaving a crack

Threatening to shatter, the brave

Image I display

~

At times my hope goes away

At times I think

There won't be any more sunlight

On summer days,

There won't be any more moonlight

On dark midnights

~

Our candle won't burn

With a spark from a flame

Anymore

~

Time moves on, days pass

And still, I think of you

Last kisses fade, feelings pale

And still, I think of us

At the beginning of love

Not knowing what would come

~

And, I wonder

Lonely little thoughts

That ask

Would we do it all again

If we knew

Gorgeous. Drenched in soul. I adore this. My favourite stanza: Notes of you, fretted on an acoustic guitar Resonate inside a mahogany body Naked strings, strummed by clumsy fingers Vibrate above African Blackwood Lusciously rich in word, in metaphor, in meaning. Wonderful. Powerful... and that ending is so poignant!πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

This poem is so full and yet paradoxically talks of such loss. How did you do that? Poignant. I loved the romantic imagery that you used throughout, losing its essence as love fades.
