I'm a Computer Engineering major who enjoys reading, writing, fitness, and Crafts, and who occasionally writes stuff that can be published. Most is opinion, some is fact, a good majority is fiction - unless otherwise specified. Enjoy!
Making Fabric from Metal
In medieval and ancient times, almost everything was either made by hand or with a limited amount of hand tools and pure elbow grease(this is fairly obvious, upon retrospect, since they used to call it the dark ages). From furniture to fabrics, carpentry to metalworking, laborers and skilled artisans alike had no electricity nor any advanced machinery to help them create their vision.
Carer of the Bells
Carer of the Bells I live in the church tower - in a small room just below the gigantic brass bell that everybody knows. Very few of them know me, but they all know that I exist - I have to, otherwise the bell would never ring. My home has a bed, a table and comfortable, if old chair, an oil lamp, and a few bookshelves. Most of the books are religious, but I do have some learned and nonfiction books. Bound in leather, regularly cleaned of dust and mites, they've been my most steadfast companions since the position of church caretaker was bestowed upon me.
How to Make Yarn from Plastic
Plastic yarn, or Plarn, is a material used by crafty DIYers and recyclers for some time. It’s easily available (since it's made from plastic bags) and made quickly with just a few steps in a couple of different methods and can be used to make all sorts of useful things or cool decorations. People online have created bags, laundry baskets, purses, placemats or wall tapestries, and more!
The New Idol
It was three days after Jonukan unexpectedly - and somewhat amusingly - ascended to reverence when he noticed something was wrong. He awoke shortly before dawn, a moment of relative peace and quiet, and found it... Wanting. Unrest and impatience bubbled within his chest, anxiety making his heart pound, eyes dilated and breaths coming in short bursts. He knew what was wrong the moment he gained clarity, and growled to himself, knowing that the clarity wouldn't last much longer. Of all the times for him to regress.
What Can't We 3D Print?
The technology itself has existed for some time now: the general concept has been referenced as far back as the 1940's and 50's, and we've had basic 3D printers since the 80's and 90's. The main method, fused deposition modeling, involves the extrusion of hot plastic from a tube onto a flat build plate to create a 3D object - typically encoded in .stl or .gcode files by a slicing program or CAD software.
What to Eat When You Can't
Eating well or eating the right amount is difficult for most people, let alone those with a GI condition. Whether it be Crohn’s, IBS / IBD, GERD, or one of the many others, there’s times when you have no appetite and have to force yourself to eat, and times when you could eat a horse and yet gag at the idea of actually putting the food in your mouth. It’s a dreadful culinary purgatory, but there’s hope.
Chapter 2 They were orange. Bright, virulent orange, with undulating cyan ridges from top to bottom. They were also around eight feet tall, vaguely squidlike, and didn’t seem to ‘ambulate normally.’ Instead of legs or feet, there was a dense column of short, thick tentacles beneath them, constantly wriggling and shifting to almost glide them in one direction or the other. It was a bizarre sight, but I was on an alien planet.
It started out innocently enough. Your friends talked about it every so often as a joke, something that happens after you do too many hallucinogenic drugs: Fast-movers, flickering lights, glowing balls - shifting and twisting shadows out of the corners of your vision. Things that you thought were there, but actually weren't. It always sounded amusing, entertaining even - but then you started noticing it yourself, without any /extra/ help.
