What is Trust?
This was a high school interview/joint writing assignment for wellness, but still inspires me today. The setting of the interview was typical for my dad, comfortable yet a place of thought. He sat in his rolling armchair, eyes scrolling across his screen, the ceasing of mouse clicks signaling for me to begin the interview.

Dating Bill of Rights
In this society, the do’s and don’t of relationships have grown askew. Faulty and jaded double-standards, blinding both male and female to the importance of connection. Because both parties are held to such high, or low, standards, the health of relationships can be hard to maintain. Misconceptions and cruel misbehaviors, can turn to questions of consent and a gross possessive attitude or insecurity. But this isn’t all the blame of the individual, but a lack of dating/sexual education.

My Favorite Mistake
The task was simple: a walk from point A to point B. My guardian (don’t remember which relative or friend) had told me with specific instructions to return home before it got dark. As the scenery was bathed a soft pink my body laid comfortably on the soft grass, the sound of the moving trees bringing a smile to my face. The sudden chill made my sleepy eyes open as I eyed the sinking sun. Abruptly her words awoke me from my peaceful day dream;

Innovation in Place of Standardization
"Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent," said Victor Hugo. This speaks for Clive Wearing, a English musician and musicologist in his mid-forties, who suffered a devastating brain infection—herpes encephalitis—which reduced his memory span to only a few seconds. He was featured in a BBC documentary in 1986 by Jonathan Miller titled, Prisoner of Consciousness. Renowned author, Oliver Sack, wrote Clive's wife, Deborah, post illness until he finally went to meet him face to face in the summer of 2005. He was astounded to find that the anticipated man writhing in agony was in fact, a bubbly conversationalist brimming with warmth. How you ask? Music. He was taken off the hard drugs that dulled his senses and was immersed in classical piano, "The structure of the piece, he was held, as if the staves were tramlines and there was only one way to go. He knew exactly where he was because in every phrase there is context implied, by rhythm, key, melody...When the music stopped Clive fell through to the lost place" (209 Musicophilia). This is a man who couldn't remember a passed moment, yet he knew a score through and through. This is the power of music. Music offers a plethora of psychological, emotional, and physical benefits to people of all ages. Despite this, music programs are being cut across the country because of a lack of understanding that music pays for itself. The lack of funding due to a myopic to budget constraints, misappropriation of importance, and disregard for music education needs to be rectified.

Reaction to the Assessment Crisis
The most misunderstood aspect of education is the stressed importance of standardized testing. It's reached the point where the only "accurate" means of evaluation in schools, are high-stakes tests that inaccurately categorize students as either winners or losers. Students and teachers have made it abundantly clear over the years, that this practice needs to stop. However, when it comes to education, schools are ruled by the system.

Why is it that Rain Drops, but Snow Falls?
Throughout the ages, mankind has been troubled by a multitude of questions. Through perseverance and great intellectual curiosity, many of these questions have answers. Long have they pondered questions such as, "Why is grass green?" "Why is the sky blue?" and “What is the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything?” Thus far, we have been successful in compiling answers. However, there are other questions such as, "Why do you need an appointment to see a psychic?" "If you didn't get caught, did you really do it?" and "What would we do without hypothetical questions?" that have yet to be answered. However, through meditation, self-inquiry and theoretical logic, one of the unanswered questions has been answered. "Why is it that rain drops and snow falls?"

Forgiveness is Not Weakness
She made every note stand on its own, the eerie airiness of her voice becoming the hallowing of the wind. Her tone then shifted, creating a blithe rendition. The radiating happiness in her words melted the very snow around her. She spoke of the end as if it were salvation, but then fear crept in. You could feel the darkness encroaching upon you, blocking your source of light. The iciness of the loneliness causing your heart to freeze over. And just as the cold numbs your senses, a warm spring breeze envelops you. Love then becoming the only thing you've ever known. As her emotions wavered, so did the world around her. The world she—I created for myself. A world created through the lyrical melodies and patterns, found even in the very soil we walk on. Everything has a voice, whether it’s immaculate or insignificant is dependent on how it's being used. In the past, my voice was but a whisper.

Recognizing and Overcoming False Growth Mindsets
"A growth mindset is the belief that you can develop your talents and abilities through hard work, good strategies, and help from others" (Dweck 1). Research has proven that a growth mindset has a profound, continuous, and positive effect on student motivation and participation. However, a growth mindset is only as effective as the archer who is teaching with it.

Life is Fluid; Memories Are Fragile
In the beginning— We're all screaming for the sake of attention, and are unable to have our needs heard without a fit We put odds and ends into our mouths for the sake of exploration, because we don't know the world we've touched down in
