The Family Dog Knew I Had Cancer
Animals have a special sensing that goes beyond some of the sixth sense or heightened senses that most humans have. Without even talking or speaking there’s an empathy that animals can feel despite being a different species than the human species. When I was younger there was a family dog, and the last family pet of my grandparents. To give some backstory my grandparents had a Boston terrier that they loved and then after the passing of that beloved Boston terrier. My grandparents got another family dog and then this dog would be the last pet that they ever had, and also the best pet they ever had.

Why I’m Torn About My Name
I’ve gone by many names over the years, Sami, Sami boo boo, Fruitcake, Sami-Bami, Penelope Pee Pants Parrish, but Samantha is not one of the names that I like. This gives a whole new spin on My Name is by Eminem, can you imagine the verse Slim Shady replaced with Pee Pants Parrish? (not a bad rap right, but I'll leave the rapping to slim shady).

How A Photography Class Didn't Teach Me How To Be A Photographer
There truly is something to say about the phrase A picture is worth 1000 words. In the process I've made in photography for the past eleven years, I've learned that photography is more then just clicking the shutter and capturing the image. I wanted to learn photography so I could have better quality photos to use for anime conventions and my cosplay photos. But as soon as I got that fujifilm camera in my hand, my whole perspective changed. I walked around my neighborhood testing out the camera, I loved how I saw the surroundings through my lens. I felt creative, and a new sense of wonder. Photography gave me that feeling I never had to truly see the world around me.

My Mom Was A Makeshift Firefighter
As I’m sitting here reminiscing about these days in June. I think about some of the memories that I have in June, and one of those memories is one that I haven’t thought about extensively for a long time. When a very serious event happened in the summer of 2013.

I Went A Week Without Wearing A Bra
I have something to get off my chest, and one of those things is my bra. I did a piece similar to this where I talked about when I went 27 days without shaving. I've been slowly changing my ways as a woman to not follow what has been drilled into me to do in my evolution as a woman. After stopping the stress of shaving, knowing it wouldn't change how I look. The second embedded habit I wanted to test was how it would affect me physically and mentally not wearing a bra.

These Are The Tunes Of My Teenage Days
Music is my therapy, my escape, and my way of being understood when I couldn't explain my pain. I'm sure others mention some of the same songs I'll be reminiscing about. These songs helped others out like they helped me get through troubling times. But the stories I have for these songs are different, I'll never forget what these songs did for me, how I found them, and the routines I had when I would escape into the world these songs immersed me into.

Let's Go Back To The Days of The 1980s
The 80s is my favorite decade, I never got to experience that being born in 1995, but I can appreciate what that decade did for ten years in the transition from the 70s. When I was little, my mother still had her clothes from her days in the 80s. I got to see her bright colored shirts and puffy sleeve dresses. I got to wear her scarlet shoulder padded dress around the house. As I got older, anything I wanted was on my retro radar from music to movies. I listened to the one hit wonders and watched all the movies to see the styles. For two years in a row at my high school for the decade day of spirit week, I dressed up as Don Johnson from Miami Vice. I wore white pants, a bright blue shirt and a neon green blazer, and of course, I had a pair of ray bans to finish the look. If there is a style that I want to see make a comeback in the trends, its the looks of the 1980s.

Stripping Away The Beauty Armor
Makeup is like war paint, clothing is like armor. Those are just things we put on our body to decorate ourselves. They do serve a purpose for expressing personality and boosting self-esteem when used in an non-obsessive way. But they do not define women (men and non-binary too, I don't want to leave anyone out).

The Life Handbook: Tactics, Turmoil, & Tools
I'm turning twenty six this month, I've gotten through almost 60% of my twenties, and it was a rough patch of adulthood for me. I had to know what I wanted to do, and how I had to buck up and battle through. The past four years of my adulthood has been a test of : independence, perception, perspective, and perseverance.

How Has Courage The Cowardly Dog Changed Children?
Courage the Cowardly Dog was released as a promo in 1996 with "Chicken From Outer Space". That little short animated snippet was enough for a green light to have John R. Dilworth's tale about a terrified little purple anthropomorphic dog facing various frightening foes to be apart of the Cartoon Network lineup in 1998. Now it holds a reputation of inspiration and has grown to be apart of the classics of cartoons. It holds a place in the hearts of all the kids from the new millennium including myself. Courage the Cowardly Dog was the show that had the perfect blend of scares and smarts.
