Bright light flashed through the hallway window followed by a thunderous crack. The storm was announcing that it was close, very close. Almost right on top of the four-bedroom family abode nestled in a sleepy, tree-lined suburb. Leanne, startled by the sharp slap of the lightning, nearly leapt out of her Kim Possible PJ bottoms. Her hands clapped over her mouth preventing a small squeal from escaping her lips. A quick glance towards Mom and Dad’s bedroom door assured her that they were still safely within the confines of their own room. Leanne forced her breathing to slow. She wasn’t used to disobeying her parents. She shuddered to think what would happen if they found her sneaking around the house in the dark after midnight. Actually in truth, Leanne had never been punished much past a light scold. She was generally a very well behaved kid and wouldn't normally take risks like being out past her bedtime but tonight, she had pressing matters to attend too...

Resting into Process
Somewhere between my teens and early twenties I became an over-achiever. I’m not exactly sure when or why it happened. I’ve always been a bit of a competitive spirit, fuelled by the satisfaction of achievement. But somewhere along the way the creation and accomplishment of endless lists of goals become the fuel for my soul. I was obsessed with ticking things off my list. The rush of knowing I had completed a job well done, the validation that came along with it, it was all I could think of.

What to Watch Next if you LOVE Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away
I don’t know about you, but I vividly remember the first time I watched Spirited Away. It’s one of those life defining moments that is seared into your mind. Maybe you remember where you were for Y2K, or the third week of March 2020, my moment is watching Spirited Away for the first time. I was 10 years old, which just so happens to be the heroine Chihiro’s age. I had just moved cities. The film opens on Chihiro and her family moving towns.

The Mystery of the Bog Body
On May 8, 1950, a mysterious discovery was made in the bogs of the Jutland Peninsula, Denmark. A group of peat moss cutters, among them a boy of only 11 years old, unearthed a chilling find in the cold mud of the barren boglands. They had uncovered the body of a middle-aged man, stark naked but for a small cap on his head and a leather braid around his neck. The local homicide unit was called in and the unidentified man was taken to the police station to be autopsied.

Spark Joy in Your Life with a Vision Board
I’ve always been a daydreamer. When I was a little girl, I was someone you could've described as having their head in the clouds. Constantly traveling to faraway lands in my mind, imagining all of the different adventures I would have and all of the exciting people I would meet. It’s funny how all of that daydreaming has manifested itself as a powerful tool to lead the kind of life I used to dream of.

The Sea Keeper's Daughter
Aisling took a deep breath, drawing in as much oxygen as possible. Rich scents of the spring meadow filled her lungs. Clover flowers, wild primroses and dust that had been picked up off the hot ground by the wind. She knelt in the dirt path that she herself had forged. It led from her small stone cabin, to the trout pond up the hill. Laying just off the path in a patch of lush green grass, was a wounded hare. The poor hare was breathing sharply, its eyes darted from Aisling to the surroundings, calculating an escape should Aisling make one wrong move.

How Dogs Have Boosted Mental Health During the Pandemic, Meet 3 Dogs Changing Lives
Since March 2020, most of us have been leading lives of isolation, often struggling with loneliness and despair, but these three at-home-heroes have been making life a little easier for their new found families. Humans have a long-time relationship with the canine species. Affectionately coined as (wo)man’s best friend, dogs have been a large part of our lives for thousands of years. Recent studies published in October 2020’s issue of the Science Journal (Vol. 370, Issue 6516), say that number is over 10,000 years to be exact. It’s clear that we have always valued and understood the many benefits of the human-dog relationship, but now, thanks to this new pandemic lifestyle, we are even more keenly aware of the value of a dog.

If You Loved The Queen's Gambit, Then Meet The Queen of Comedy
The Queen’s Gambit is arguably the biggest television hit of the last year. Not to be cliché, but nearly everyone has been talking about it. It has skyrocketed Anya Taylor-Joy to household name status, raked in Best Limited Series and Best Actress awards at this year’s Golden Globes, and is responsible for hundreds of thousands of people discovering a new-found interest in chess. Seriously. My family played more chess over Christmas holiday than we had in the last decade.
