Passionate Cooking
I have been in the kitchen most of my life. My earliest memory was when I was about three years old when my parents and I lived in Hampton, VA. I helped my dark haired, slender mom make Christmas cookies, most notably, thimble cookies with jam. Mom would let me take a clean thimble and make little indentations in the small cookies to fill with fruit jam. Another favorite memory was ‘washing’ dishes with her after the dinner meal. I loved playing in the dish water.

Twenty Five
A light blue sky with cottony clouds arched above a canopy of oak, birch, and maple trees. Small, green buds dotted the branches. Sun beams poked their way through the clouds and illuminated the rocky, mossy forest path. The woman breathed in deeply. A cool, earthy scent filled her nostrils. She was dressed unconventionally for a walk in the forest. She wore no shoes. The moss tickled the bottoms of her tanned, bare feet. She wore a rich plum, velvet off the single shoulder dress that came to her knees. Velvet fabric draped elegantly on her one shoulder. The dress was loosely fitted and ruched across the bodice. She wore simple gold hoops and a gold thread necklace with polished, clear quartz crystal beads. Her black hair was in its tousled and messy state down her back. She walked softly along the path; guided only by intuition.

Beginnings
“You’re the inspiration” by Chicago, came through softly on the Mercury Mariner stereo. The 39 year old man smiled to himself; his deep blue eyes crinkled. This is song brought back good memories of his middle school days before life got crazy. He pushed a wayward light brown curl out of his eye and focused on the road to his new destination. He knew he needed a haircut badly to tame his mess of curls, but he hadn’t had time to go to a stylist or even find one in his new area.
