A Divorced Woman
When I was 12 years old, I remember one of my greatest wishes was to fall in love with the perfect guy and get married by the time I was 20 years old. Coming from a family of 12 brothers and sisters, and being the youngest of the six girls, I was only following the examples I got from my older sisters. My mother brought us up with the conviction that a woman's role in this world was to find herself a good, hardworking, and loving guy, get married, have lots of children and live happily ever after.

Being a Loner Is Not a Bad Thing
I have been a divorced mother for the past sixteen years, and my daughter has left to college, graduated after three and half years, moved back but this time with her boyfriend, got married and moved to Idaho. Afterwards, I became somewhat of a loner, though I come from a very large family, plenty of brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins that I can't count without putting it on paper. I participated at every single birthday party, wedding, baby shower, family trip and come from a family that does nothing else out of their circle. Literally, my family can get together every weekend at someone's house for years and years and years and this is all they ever want to do.

Feeling Comfortable in Your Own Skin
While waiting to board an airplane on my way home from the Dominican Republic, I was facing the stairs and could see other travelers walking to their gate. I was flying back to Miami, and there was another flight going to New York City. I noticed something about the young girls and guys headed back to New York City: Nine out of ten were overweight.
