The Art of Emotions.
The Beginning. Several months back, I started working to improve my realistic portraits through taking some online classes and practicing weekly on new face-drawing endeavors. Over the last couple of years I started focusing on faces because my ability to draw people was a zero on a scale of one to ten! Unless you count stick figures. That might have brought me up to a one. Below are sections of each portrait. Continue to my Etsy shop for more information on each.

Top 10 Adventure Movie Favorites
I don’t know about you, but this season of the year makes me want to go explore, and that isn’t always possible when I have a full-time job and adult responsibilities like bills to pay. If you feel the same, that doesn’t mean that you have to miss out on exploration! You just have to find a new way to explore, especially when the weather is unpredictable. Watching movies of far away places is one of the ways that I can get out of my normal every day routine. I've listed some of my favorites here, in no particular order. I hope at least one of them inspires you to step out of your comfort zone and into someone else’s shoes for a while.

To Err is Human.
–Look over there, Lieutenant Highly. That one! What a beauty! The captain motions as the planet emerges into view. I nod, turning my periscope towards the planet below me. I have been guiding this ship through the galaxies for years, but it is always the little earth planet that I enjoy coming back to. The surface shows a bluish-green little planet, which is not very impressive at first glance, but something draws me to it. The captain fiddles with a few buttons on her console and points again to the planet called Earth. Bulleted listings of assignments are lasered onto my duties roster in .002 seconds. The planet’s neighborhoods zoom into view, though I am aware that our invisibility remains.

A Dog's View.
This is my first time out of the kennel in nine hours. Oh, no, this is not torture. It’s just something that the Hue-Man does to make sure that I don’t wander through the house in the middle of the night. Making me stay put makes them feel better. I have two Hue-Man’s that keep me each day. Well, three if I count the little one. I don’t know if I quite count her yet. She is still new and smells funny. I was taken into this house that I live in now when I was two years old. In dog years, this is supposed to be an adult, but I sure don’t feel like an adult when they ask me to do things all the time.

Embrace Life!
A New Episode I don’t always write in this space like I would a blog. Instead, I prefer to share the short stories I create along with art that inspires me. However, today I wanted to try something different and explain what I have reluctantly learned over the past several months. I love reading other people's stories, especially when it comes from a vulnerable place, so I hope maybe the next couple paragraphs can touch you in some way.

Cat: Found.
The following is a mostly-true tale of a running experience. There are many people that I notice, even at 6:30 in the morning! I say “mostly true” because I like to imagine the possibilities of a situation, even if I don’t know the outcome or background of certain circumstances.

NaNoWriMo is in the air!
We are just a couple weeks away from what many amateur writers call National Novel Writing Month! This is also affectionately dubbed, NaNoWriMo, and the people who choose to participate (choose! remember that!) are often called WriMos. What is NaNoWriMo, you might ask? It is only the greatest month of the year! Whether you've never written a single word of fiction in your life or you're a twenty-year writing pro, NaNoWriMo in November has something for you!

Prickly Pear
"Hey!" Renee didn't hear the word, but she saw the wave, the open mouth, and the frantic college student running toward her. They trotted silently next to each other as Renee counted off the last half mile. Finally she stopped and looked at her roommate, the one who had ignored her all semester. "I didn't know you ran!" Her roommate, Cam, grinned at her. Renee locked her hands behind her back, so she didn't prattle off with something sarcastic like, Oh, you didn't know deaf people could run? Cam stood there for one more minute and then waved half-heartedly, jogging off in the other direction. Renee shook her head and threw open the door to her room, hoping Cam would leave her alone so she could get work done.

Contained Within.
The walls of the dank cave shattered into boulders with a CRACK! as rocks and debris collapsed around Kirstin. The dust of the ruined mine billowed around her head. Or whatever it was. It must be killing her. She was overcome by a fit of coughing, creating a spasm in her chest that brought her to her knees. "Tim!" She hollered hoarsely, but couldn't see her fiance anywhere. Her eyes filled with tears from worry and choking. Surely this rockslide indicated a collapse deeper in the tunnel.

Minotaur in Hot Water
This story is the fifth in a Summer Fiction Series challenge where I scribble a short story based on a book. This story prompt includes a bull, with the concept inspired from The Sun Also Rises, by Ernest Hemingway. The illustrations are also created by Hannah Marie.
