The Importance Of Knowing Ourselves
Do you know who you are? It might sound like a silly question, but many people live ambiguous, unhappy lives because they are in denial about who they are, what they want, and who they could be. This could have happened perhaps because they have not been reinforced or affirmed, they lack the confidence to achieve their desires, or they are trying to please their significant others, or those they wish to impress. Like people who might genuinely like one thing, but do another. However, it is very important to know yourself for at least three reasons:

The Most Common Reasons People Fail Job Interviews
I am often asked by workshop participants how they can boost their confidence before an important event to improve their chances of success. But, even as a former business owner, it is not so easy for me to tell them what they need to do to make an impact because we’re all unique individuals. Instead, I have found it more beneficial to mention the most common reasons people fail interviews, for example, which allows them to assess for themselves which ones might be of particular value and take some action to improve them. They would also be boosting their confidence in the long-term instead of just to suit the moment.

The Biggest Obstacle To A Happy Relationship
Although the underlying causes for break-ups are unknown, there are some common issues which cause the most conflict, affecting partners in different ways. The main one is unrealistic expectation within the relationship.

Paternal Reflections
The first time I saw the film ‘Bullitt' I cried buckets, but I was the only one moved in this way. Apparently everyone else enjoyed the film! Even more strange, I did not discover the reason for this lachrymose flood until half-way through the movie, and the shock took some years to wear off.

At What Ideal Age Should You Retire?
Though there is a legal age for retirement in most countries (67 in the USA and 66 in the UK, for the benefits of receiving a pension), the age of retiring is an individual decision, when that person would like to leave the workplace. While the average age for retirement can range from 61 to 66 in the USA, the average age in the UK is nearer the official age - 65.5. However, it is not plain sailing for all the genders, as women seem to be much worse off than men in the amount of money saved on their retirement, which is just $54,000, compared to the men's saving of $118,000 - more than twice as much. Apart from gender, retirement life is also likely to be impacted by racial factors.

Can I Teach My Partner Self-Love To Help Her Low Self-Esteem?
The answer to this question might not sound positive, but it is highly practical. You cannot teach anyone self-love because loving the self does not come from external forces, or other people. It comes from how we were treated in childhood: whether we were appreciated or not, or shown real value for who we are, and also whether our relationships since then have changed that experience or reinforced it. Self-esteem, which comes out of self-love, has to be built internally, because a lack of self-love is indicative of an absence of self-acceptance, a feeling of inadequacy, and being worthless.

A Life Improvement I Made That I Wish I Had Done SoonerTop Story - June 2023
When my diabetes developed complications 12 years ago , I could no longer work full time. I spent so much time in bed feeling ill and extremely lethargic I could not trust myself to be outdoors sometimes, fearing that I might collapse. As my doctor put it, my efforts were like trying to walk in treacle! To keep myself busy, and at least to utilise my brain, I took to the computer to do my writing, but that did nothing for my social life, or even basic exercise, which worried me daily, as exercise is often better than medication for that illness.

How Do You Know You’re In Love?
Falling in love is such a pleasurable thing, the tell-tale signs are not easily missed because they take over your life for as long as the feeling lasts. They permeate every activity, they define your actions and appear to take on a vibrant life of their own. There is no greater feeling than being in love, because that is strongly connected to our feeling of self-worth, desirability and acceptance, which makes it one of the happiest moment’s of a person’s life. When we are in love, the world seems to take on a glow all of its own, and we are likely to view things and people through more positive lens.

Are There Benefits To Getting Married Later In Life?
Marriage is one of the biggest milestones of our lives. It signifies a time of being a fully-fledged adult wanting to leave the parental nest and start one's own family. It also provides some security, entitlement and legal privileges which are not available to single people. Up to 50 years ago, Gretna Green in Scotland did brisk business with 16 year olds, and under, eloping to the famous location to get married without parental consent. Many girls were eager to tie the knot to escape parental consent, especially as there were few other options for them than keeping a household.

How Romantic Relationships Begin to Deteriorate
Relationships do not have to deteriorate. They can be nurtured for years if couples maintain a loving partnership and are aware of the chief warning signs of discontent. Trouble starts when partners are being taken for granted, there is a growing disrespect for what they value, and ultimately neglect. These trends tend to manifest themselves in three key ways: the attraction between the couple starts to fade, expectations become unfulfilled and disappointing, causing increasing resentment, and mutual activities gradually cease between the couple.

Finding It Hard To Be Positive If Life Has been Disappointing?
The hard fact is that no one promised us only the good life when we were born, and if we keep being negative, unfortunately, negativity is all we will get because your life would have nothing positive to help to build it up.
