The Teacher Who Inspires Me 52 Years Later
I attended Lincoln Terrace elementary school in Roanoke, Va. from first through fifth grades. I had the same teacher for grades four and five. Her name was Margaret Thompson. This was prior to integration and all the students and educators were African American. Ms. Thompson told us how her sister, Sharon who was in middle school at the time, cried over one B. She emphasized that we should strive to get all A’s and not settle for less. In Ms. Thompson’s class we sang folk songs and learned America the Beautiful and the Star Spangked Banner. During the Christmas season we memorized the poem The night before Christmas. We learned all the holiday classics and sang them. I can recall them to this day. I remember the old record player and how during Halloween we sang “Witches, pumpkin heads and black cats? Scary spooks and black bats ooh it’s Halloween, ooooooh'! I think of this tune every Halloween

The Single Best Way To Prevent The Coronavirus
If you believe wearing a face mask is the way to prevent the Coronavirus, you are absolutely, unequivocally wrong. You may have gotten this irronious idea from television news broadcasts, showing streets full of Chinese people walking with masks covering their faces. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as The Department of Health and Human Services both say this is not necessary for two reasons. The first is that most people do not wear the masks correctly and would not truly be protected from airborn germs. The second is that mass padamonium would hit the nation and Americans would make a run on the masks as they do thr grocery stores at the mere mention of snow.

A tradition from slavery Decades ago when a black couple decided to get married, it would be said that they were going to “jump the broom.” I heard this often but did not give much thought to it. Today it’s for African American couples to jump over a broom to seal the deal after a wedding ceremony. There was even a movie that was titled Jumping the broom.

Doug Davidson may be off 'The Young and the Restless' again
Doug Davidson's recent tweet is causing concern among fans of The Young and the Restless. The 42 year veteran of the CBS daytime drama seems to be in the same predicament he was in more than one year ago. At that time, his character Paul Williams was taken off contract and not on screen from the end of 2017 until mid 2019. No reason was given for removing this beloved character and his fans were shocked to see Detective Rey Rosales seated in Paul's chair at the PCPD. Viewers complained on social media and signed petitions demanding the popular actor be returned to the show and he was. Unfortunately, the writers don't seem to know what to do with the award winning actor and he may be gone again.

Catching up with Ralph Malph from Happy Days
Happy Days, which ran from 1974-1984 was set in the 1950's to the 1960's in Milwaukee, Wisconsin It was one of the most popular shows of it's era. One of the things that made the program so endearing was the relationship between Richie Cunningham and his friends. The antics with the Fonz, Ralph, and Potsie made the show fun to watch. Donny Most who portrayed Ralph Malph has not been seen since Happy Days ended as much as Ron Howard and Henry Winkler but he has managed to remain busy, since his lovable character was last seen. His alter ego, Ralph was one of Richie Cunningham's best friends on Happy Days. He was always thinking about girls and telling lame jokes. Malph was also a practical joker and often used novelty items such as joy buzzers, whoopie cushions, spring-loaded eyeball glasses, and Groucho Marks glasses on his less than thrilled victims.
